Wanted 26.4mm seatpost & 1 1/8 unthreaded Marin fork

frye

Retro Newbie
Hi everyone !

I recently got my hands on two nice Marin frames (a few pics attached) :
Marin Team Issue 1992 (with the rather strange serial number) in original condition, with a few spots of rust (but a seized BB :( ).
Marin Team 1993 (M23**** serial number) that was repainted.

Therefore, I'm looking for :

- 26.4mm straight (ideally) seatpost, with about 20 cm above insert limit at least. Original marin seatposts are nice, even if they aren't straight.
- 1 1/8 unthreaded fork, ideally a Marin Rockstars with 220mm+ steerer length. I know that 1992/93 marin forks were 1 1/8 threaded but I'd prefer rebuilding aheadset

Thank you for your help !
Cheers

P.S. : This is my first ever post on Retrobike, so feel free to tell me if I'm doing it all wrong ;)

You will probably want some layback on that post, as the frames geometry was designed for it. Otherwise you will be too far over the crank o you will be pushing the seat right back on the rails to compensate.

St john street cycles has kalloy posts if nobody can help you with a marin one. I got one for my pine mountain a couple of years back.

I’ve got nothing useful for you but wanted to say…
Welcome Frye! your bank balance will never be the same again 😂 lovely frames you have there, the unpainted one will come up lovely with stainless steel wool (washing up type thing but must be stainless), some gt85, and the blood sweat and tears of course! Enjoy 🚲

Oh, allright thanks for the tips ! I'll look for a seatpost with some layback. I am not in a big hurry about these builds so I'll wait a bit to see if anyone has a marin 26.4.

Hi there, I have a Syncros seatpost available if you are interested. It's uncut and over 400 mm long. Hard to find in this diameter. £50 posted Condition as per photo (saddle available but not included in price). PM me if interested. Cheers

Hi @Hairylegs66
So sorry for my late reply, I missed your answer. Lovely seatpost you have here, a bit above my budget unfortunately. I finally got my hands on a cheaper one with a bit of layback.

Thank you for your offer though.

Cheers,
Frye

Fork is sorted as well, thanks to Tootyred, but I can't seem to switch this post to "Sorted".
Being still a retro newbie might be the reason for that ?
