Raleigh ???? commuter machine - tidy up and ride.

1984 Record Sprint I'd say

The first year they had the Round-Oval-Round 'Aerospace Contour' tubing, and braze on front mech

Weimann 500 calipers in Gold, and Weinmann Black Concave rims as well

The rest of it? Well, a period Custom Chainset from another Raleigh, but the rear mech looks like an early Shimano SIS cheap and cheerful job

I'd try turps or somethings similar to remove the blue paint (which looks like it was applied by Stevie Wonder in the dark..!!!)

Edit: Just had another look, and the forks are 1983 bike I'd say, which may mean that the original frame has been changed hence the 1984 frame

or maybe it's a 1983.5 model!!

I hope it still has the space shuttle under all that shite.

Obvious whoever last owned it was clueless. I recon the forks might have been damaged in a crash, considering the rear mech.

Helicomatic sticker on the back hub?

I'm tired of the shit which is thrown out by the odd member on this forum who either
pulls folks bikes down or bluntly tells people what they must do.

Raleighrider21! If the bike appeals to you mate and even if it has the wrong stuff
on it, who gives a sh*t! Its what enthrills us guys who love old steel bikes, either
high quality or the average bikes which gives them a new lease of life.

I'm going with a frame change, as that's definitely an '84 Aerospace Contour frame!

The head badge is also at the cross-over point from 'The Raleigh' to Raleigh

It's a bitsa!!

i think the frame may be cracked. if its terminal I wont be able to afford to repair it so it will most likely get built onto a different frame. but not sure if it is... pic here.. any help guys?

The way I see things, if it works, its a good one, ill ride it until it dies and then if its repairable itll get fixed and used some more. It doesn't matter what it is, its a bike, its there to be ridden.

Just looks like a small space between the lug and the frame? Or am I missing something ? Not a typical place for a crack just a lack of peripheral braze on the shoreline of the lug.....

Shaun

PS Ian, I've not seen anything nasty on this thread, just a bit of banter with the odd smiley thrown in :)

Strip the paint back, but it looks ok to me! :)

What are you on about? He's come here with a bike and asked for info about it. We're providing it.

If you're looking for a scrap try the pub. Though I suggest for your own sake you learn to be nice to people instead.
