quick link 6 speed old chain

Damn thing dorsnt want to fit.

I know i know my chain is old so I should replace it.. but I havent yet.

I have a couple of kmc quick links in my box supposedly fir 6/7/8 speed chains.
My chain is off to soak... so thought id add a link in. Wont fit.
It really really really looks the right size. But can i squeeze it together, nope.

Is it just not compatible with such an old chain? Does the pin in the quicklink want a tiny poke from chaintool? Do they really need the strength of hercules (pliers) on a 6 speed chain? Am I missing something?

Stamp on chain links is something like umc or similar.

I think the 6 speed chains will be top wide for quick links which tend to only work on 8 speed and above chains. Could be wrong buy in the past I've had to buy specific quick link type things based on chain 'speed'.

You'll get a six speed chain with quick link from asdas for about £8

Thanks guys. The link i had is a 6/7/8 link so should be fine. Google suggested giving it a tiny tweak with chaintool, so i did and hey presto works. Thanks for your posts.
