Then I went down a rabbit hole being curious if this is an export model or not and going through catalogues. Couldn't see anything in the French catalogues.

UK 1978 / 1979 Catalogue - very close to yours




Then found this in the UK is 1980 and a much closer match to yours except for some details like the rear mech, saddle, and pump pegs.

In the UK 1980 catalogue it is like a mix of the U09 and PX8.




Not totally sure - but I have seem them in this period - there may be a date printed on those hubs. My understanding the export models also had a standard BSC freewheel thread, and perhaps they are even 27" wheels or?

@Woz it's a 1975 UE8. I have the bill of sale and hand book. Can't find a head badge. A french flag decal is going there.
Edit it has 27" wheels but the freewheel is french. Pedal threads are English. Headset is french

bit of an oddity for me there with the sales receipt in 1975.

The decals and parts totally correspond to 1980. A later warranty replacement perhaps?

What's the plan? Ditch the wheels entirely to have a better tyre and freewheel choice?

I was struggling to date it as well. I agree with your findings. So, I cleaned the brakes and the hubs. All marked 1979. Possibly a warranty replacement.
