Modified Bontrager race

Had an old Voodoo converted by Atlantic finishers once , nice job, repainted in acid green and custom decals, very good prices. But for my latest Voodoo i felt the seat stays were too light to mess with, so to my surprise i put Avid speed dial 7 levers and single digit 7 v brake on......with a shimano carbon brake booster.................Wow........iv'e used lots of disc set ups but these are great v.brakes even in the wet !..............oops nearly forgot my secret weapon for v.brakes....i use old (clarks ?) oversize brake outer.......as fat as SLR but the windings are much thicker and wider........so a lot stiffer, it really beefs up the power. Too thick for a ferrel as well.

That is stunning... I bet it's an absolute flying machine :!:

Bit of a shame it uses a tensioner though :(

be careful w/ those mounts. it doesn't look like the welder added a reinforcment bar from the chainstay to the seat stay. The frame was not enginered for discs, so it probably cant handel the uneven load that will be placed on the stays. I've seen a lot of independents that had his modification done crack. just something to look out for.

I've been running it with the disk mounts for 2 years now with no probs. I asked Mercian about a reinforcing bar when I had it done and they said they felt it wouldn't need one.

This frame, fork, head set and seat post combo is for sale, check the for sale forum, good offers considered.

Its an original pre Trek Sant Cruz built frame which I unpacked at Mike Cookson Cycles in 1996. I had just bought a Race lite at the time as well which was one of the last to come into the shop with the shot through stays. this one has the standard seat stays.

Your bike looks great, the temptation is strong to not sell mine and single speed it instead. Single speeds look great but I not mentally tough enough to ride the hills round me on one.

I thought the same until I built my Kona up... I live in the NE of Scotland so plenty of hills - I used old rubbish and a home made tensioner for the first build - once out on the trails I was completely amazed at what can be ridden on it.

If you can do it really cheaply it's worth it for a laugh... 20lb bikes are an amazing thing even if your always in the wrong gear... or is that the right gear? The experience is a bit like being a beginner again which is great.

I'm currently running my SS fixed which is an even more bizarre experience - again I did it for cheap by bolting a sprocket onto a disk mount... it's all bikes and it's all fun

That red Bonty is amazing, whatever gears it comes with, very very nice. And what with aluminium, carbon and Titanium all in my line-up I've just found an excuse to get my own "steel" ..... :D

FWIW I'm no great keeper of originality either. I've modified and upgraded every toy/bike/car/surfboard/skateboard etc. I've ever ridden. Just make sure it is well thought out, done with good craftsmanship and a proper finish.

Also I happen to be in the middle of converting my Mongoose to SingleSpeed. A Doofer, SS sprocket and some old cassette spacers and there we go. But since I'm running 3 bike builds concurrently, no feedback on the riding (yet). What halts progress on it is whether to go rigid forks while I'm at it. decisions decisions....

Enjoy!

I went for a ride this morning and as I was climbing up Cumberland brook decided that I wouldn't enjoy single speeding alot of my local trails so the frame and forks are going on ebay on Tuesday unless sombody makes an offer before then.
I've been riding and racing it for 3 years now and it's time to move on.
