My bikes.

Done a grand job there Bob and @Mrs GIGFY has done a grand job letting you tinker with ALL these BIKES!!!

However, I do have an issue with phone cameras as they do tend to flatter how things look (must be some form of filter to make us humans look better! 🤣 ) as I take photos of my bikes and the crappy bits never look so crappy, it can be frustrating. Appreciate that this Pug is no minter, but it's been a great restoration and failed chrome can only look so good.

Hope the dynamo works, it can be used as a third brake (drag brake like on a tandem) on steep descents! 😜
Very funny that drag brake idea. I say the only thing these dynamos are good for.

I love a good dynohub. Modern ones are great. I've have had permanent lights on my commuting bike for 12 years with no maintenance/issues and have one on our cargo bike and wife's bike too. Not cheap mind you depending on what brand you go for.

Have one on that lovely Twenty @Guinessisgoodforyou donated to me, but have yet to get around to renovating it...

I have two Son Klassik hubs, I prefer the look of them to the new ones, and I got them at a discount. But still not cheap. I love them, low drag and plenty of light at a constant beam. And supreme quality. They will refurb old ones at the factory in Germany.

I didn't realize the Twenty had a dynohub, is it in the back wheel?

I have an old Son on mine (with BIG DIA straight body) which just goes on and on and my wife has a Shimano XT which is good and we got an SP on the cargo bike which has done amazingly well for the load/weight it takes. All been good investments IMHO.

Yes the Twenty has a SA rear geared and dynohub. Great combo and look forward to getting it working one day. I've done nothing to the bike since getting it from Bob, it's in dire need of a service, but I keep just jumping on it and riding it. The brakes scream like a banshee which makes everyone turn and watch a 49 year old bald bloke who should know better riding a bike that is the same age as him... COOL AS F**K in other words! 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤩

We have power, the dynamo works. The latch spring is too weak to hold it on the tyre, it just slips. But, if you apply light pressure you're rewarded with a dim urine yellow glow, not helped because it still has it's yellow french bulb🙄Back light also works. Two things the ####ing noise🙉 and the ****ing friction🔥
Further work will not be forthcoming as you need a torch to find the lights when they're on 😑
Pitting on the front rim is worse than the rear. Chain is clean after soaking for days.

Ahhhhhh the urine yellow. The taste of going to the continent BITD and painting the headlamps with some RAC issued yellow paint on the ferry to Calais. 😍

Noticed a few photos back, if you put the dynamo more inboard to the tyre on the braze would that help? Perhaps you tried this already?

How anyone could actually ride on unlit roads with these things is beyond me. Moonlight is more efficient.

I always thought their sole purpose was to avoid being stopped by the police for riding without lights.

If the copper is standing right in front of you, you lift the front wheel and spin it as fast as you possibly can and say "see! SEE!" while it flickers feebly in his face.

I hit a stone in the road one night at about 20mph and slid a long way on my face🤕

@Woz
I did try tweaking the dynamo and bracket. The erectile dysfunction is strong in this dynamo. Mr floppy is also dim to add insult to injury. I had the latch apart on the original and despite repeated attempts I could not improve the spring rate. One of the reasons I bought another.

After about 40 years, yeah ..... the old spring and burning rubber smell isn't like it was. Natural decay at work.

Hell I would need more than a torch to see my way about, would need reflective sign posts and proximity alarms today  ;)
