Loving the goat dr, what are the tubes prestige? Kind of reminds me of the clockwork frame wishbone rear end and that is a cool pair job, hope you are not going to change her frock.

Talking of these old school race machines, I have come to the sad conclusion that I can no longer suffer the nimble but twitchy ride you get with them, the clockwork just isn't as comfy or stable as the spesh (my fav ) or indeed the on-one. I thought it was just that I need a bigger frame but if I'm being honest I prefer riser bars, longer top tube and a slightly higher front end. There is def something to be said for modern with a retro feel - salsa and cotic are very good examples.

Just got the go ahead for a ride Thursday kaiser anyone else fancy?

If you can do Arran velo then the pentlands will be a breeze.

I hear what you are saying Gazz about the old racers but they can be set up to be more all day-able.
Take my Yo, with the Yo fork its low at the front, darty and great for a 90 minute heads down race but horribly tiring for a long day out on the trail. But fit a slghtly shorter stem and put a Judy DH or a 80mm SID on there and the angles become slacker and the front comes up nicely. I ran a DH with longer speed springs in it on my last Yo and it transformed it into a great all day trail bike. It still had the acceleration and sharpness of a racer but it was a little more relaxed and forgiving over distance.
Try a 80mm sus fork or a 420mm rigid on it before you write it off.

I'm quite pleased with scoring the Goat- I think that DH Judy on it is the rare 1" version- I've been looking for one to put on the Yo. Last time I had to make a steerer from scratch to fit a 1 1/8" crown. I'll paint the DH white and I can swap between the DH and the Yo fork depending on where we are going. The Goat is going to get a rigid fork- ideally a IRC or early Bonty. Paint will just get restored rather than repainted and it will need new decals. Can't believe it didn't go for a lot more especially as it hasbeen outer on here.

Might be right about the shorter stem, will keep my eyes peeled for a 1 inch short quill stem and see if that helps.

Glad you are keeping the paint job as it is way cool, fancy a jaunt to drumlanrig on Thursday? Bring your ss and meets some roots!

Will have a look at my Diary, busy busy at work again. Fancy having a go at Drum and the roots hold no fear for me now as I have gone tubeless on the Cotic. It has had a 100% puncture record prior to this weekend. Had it out tonight for an hour and hit some roots pretty hard with just 25 psi in and although it sounded and felt nasty the tyres stayed up!

Gazz shame about the clockwork but I was the same about the stumpy, just never felt right. I do have a wee reinvention plan at the back of my head though using the same longer forks and shorter stem idea. This is why I feel quite comfy on the GT the longer forks give a more modern headtube angle.

Took the Spesh down to GT this afternoon for a quick blat in 1x9 mode. Some random observations: With the narrow bars, it turns so much faster - great on the switchbacks. Also, and this is the part I really like, they pull my weight much further forward on the downhills - bloody hell, it's brilliant crouching right over the front wheel :twisted: Corners feel a lot better. Only thing that spoiled the ride was the chain kept jumping off the chainring, no doubt the chain is too long and long cage mech won't be helping either.

So the Spesh is going back to a SS. With quicker steering, maybe those uphill switchbacks won't scare me quite as much. Going to try using one of those Blackspire Stingers as a tensioner at the front - not sure how that'll work out. This should encourage me to use the iDrivel as well, as it's my only geared bike.

Also got the oven cleaner out and stripped the Easton stem back to bare ally. Now need to polish it up proper, as its looking a bit ghetto just now. Finally, been toying with going back to cantis on the rear... must be the oven cleaner fumes.

Kaiser, I'd love to go to the Drum but alas Thursday is my busy day at work and currently without transport until either Robin or Scooter back in service

Also need energy for Pentlands.

On different note, i think Alpinestars will make great SS CX steed, stiff and lightweight

ZZ had a look at the iDrive and it looks pretty good need to convince you to bring it along one time I'd love a go.

Velo I reckon the bike with the biggest headtube would be best, get a riser stem and some semi drop bars, jobs a good'un. Got some tyres for the Ku, conti 1.5 and also got a pair of panaracers in 1.95 but they come up thin. Should let me get it finished this week
