L'eroica 2015 - prices doubled!

Re:

Most of those who went last year will have fond memories as much due to the weather as anything else.
We rode some of the route in reverse and called into the showground as part of our Sunday clubrun and it was a marvellous day out.

However, had it pissed it down all day would
- spectators have been out on the road cheering the riders on?
- the showground been as full?
- the campers had such a glorious weekend or would the talk be of sodden tents and bags?
- the public have come into the showground?
- those riders opting for full period regalia made such an effort and if so, been out on the road as long as they were?
- riders have sat out in deckchairs with a beer after their ride or packed their stuff and driven home immediately?

when all goes well and you have a memorable, fun weekend the couple of hundred quid goes unnoticed. When it don't go so well, then the complaints about weather, facilities, price have a bigger bearing.

I'd be interested to see if those fighting to protect LEB's name are as strong in their views if the event's mental well-being doesn't live up to last year's. Personally, I think rose-tinted sentimentality of last year forms a big part of their argument.

Re:

That's all true, but then the same rain/sunshine argument applies to any leisure, sporting or social event the world over. Sentimentality has nothing to do with it - I might rtake another week in the lake district this year, although I shouldn't cos it rained last year.

Guys, guys....c'mon
This was a bit of a lively topic with some good opinions expressed but its starting to/has degenerated into a slanging match that's starting to get too personal for me, and a bit uncomfortable for most to consider now giving an opinion.
Just saying guys, from the outside this is degenerating fast.
Any ride is a good ride and we are all here because we love riding.

Tell you what boils my piss this very own forum Retrobike has held it's own FREE road rides all over the country for the past three years without hardly any response from this forum attended by around the same six people.
Might want to update your sig from 2013...

Anyway, like most riders in the fens, I don't wear a helmet (and they're not retro either) and viewtopic.php?f=33&t=315076 makes me think old-fashioned riders like me aren't welcome on Retrobike rides.

Retro bikes would be very welcome to join KLWNBUG's Flower Cycle (starts 22 Feb 10am Lynnsport with the Snowdrop Ride) and probably the Reach Rides on the Mayday Bank Holiday Monday 10am TBC from Ely rail station or Cambridge Guildhall but they're not my rides so I'm being a bit cheeky inviting you but I'm sure it's OK ;-)

Nah, i have lots of fond memories of the York Rally, even those years it utterly hammered down with rain. (I attended all of them from about 83 or 84 through
to when i started Uni, so 92. Either marshalling, ride leading or just helping out.)

Re:

Precisely. Most of us can distinguish between the attractiveness of an event and whether a particular visit was spoiled or not by a rainy day.

Yep, that was my reaction on seeing "retro" rides with helmet compulsion! Whatever else is wrong with LEB, they don't seem to have made that mistake.

Or 2012 when the place flooded or near enough causing the end of the York event until this year.

It was still good that year, I went with the family and they did their best with the mud bath. It could have done with better coordination but then it is volunteers and cost me sod all to go. I hear the rides where nice as well, but I'm an MTB rider and didn't fancy the roads in the rain.

Picked up plenty in the Jumble though.

It always seems to clash with something though.

Its a big shame they couldn't coincide it with the Tour de Yorkshire though.
