Actually it would be a mk1 escort and a focus but it would have to be like for like.

A 1.0 ecoboost against a 1300e would be interesting to watch

Or a full works prepared Mexico against an ST. I think a late 1960's Ford BDA engine churned out something like 250bhp but that might have been in one of the Formula race cars.

You'd need a proper race.. In the UK say Land's End to John 'o' Groats, choose your own route, no technical assistance or other support- carry your own tools and food- if you want to.
That'd show us what's really faster. A pre-war roadster would probably trounce the competition bikes of any vintage.

This is just like, cameras, fishing rods, golf clubs, guitars, running shoes, football boots etc etc etc

People have done great things with all of them, regardless of their age, development or cutting edge ‘upgraded’ size, design, materials.........

It’s what you get out of it. Which largely links to the effort you put in. Just my opinion.


Maybe fishing rods was a stretch.

Most people have more sense than to ride flat out on trails ( even at dedicated trail parks), despite having modern sus and powerful disc brakes. Too many blind corners, animals, walkers, other bikers, branches, unforseen hazards etc to deal with. Your luck will ‘eventually’ run out.


Its a bit like a huge horsepower motor on public roads. You cant use it at 10/10ths.

Exactly. I doubt my skill or talent has ever matched the capabilities of my Zaskar in the hands of a better rider A modern bike may be faster downhill, but I doubt I'd be able to out ride that's capabilities either. Speed is fun, yep. But getting sketchy on anything is fun - it's more abouy being near the bike's limit than actual velocity. For me, anyway.

I'll end this now with the fact that I am faster on my Zaskar than anything else. Especially when standing still.
