Is it really worth it?

Is DA DLA? Surely if claiming Disability Living Allowance you can't ride a bike or am I oversimplifying it?

yes you are oversimplifying it, i had a friend with a bad back...he could still run and cycle but he would sometimes get such terrible pain he had to go lie down for the rest of the day. You'd be talking to him and all of a sudden he would be in pain to the point where he was crying and had to go lie down whilst popping serious painkillers.

Is there anything you can do :) ,work wise? even if its only a few hours a week.
Or ask thy P&M[clockwork orange reference ;)] to save a little off the dla.Birthdays if the relatives know youre saving for something could send a few quid instead of socks/gloves/hat.

Ive a friend who for the most part is pretty fit[not looking  jez some people  ] Getting into a mates yacht from the dingy slipped, flipped over the guard rail and landed on the sticky out bit of a self tailing winch.Xray showed that caused a V notch in his spine.Every now and again without rhyme or reason it flares up and he's confined to bed for usually about a fortnight. He's ex army and normally force himself to do things even when feeling sick or the flu but this really floors him.
Other than that hes fine, probably walks 15miles a day.

As said above, get a job. That's how most pay for shiny new things.

Sorry if this sounds harsh as I don't know your personal circumstances, but if you think you should be getting job seekers allowance then surely you should be actively looking for work?

You have not been charged for this advice ;)

I wasnt going to say anything about the troll answers but feel forced to

Unless youve walked in the OP's shoes then keep those kind of comments to yourselves.

Troll answers

They're just opinions expressed in response to a post on a public forum.

Nothing scathing or attacking or even impolite.

The chief troll has arrived

Is it REALLY something you need?

I mean, I enjoy my bikes. But I wouldn't be too worried if I could only have a cheapie; indeed, there are some absolutely golden bikes that have no appeal to collectors. Riding a bike is more important than owning a flash one.

My advice? Build up a Raleigh Max. The ignorant will laugh, but some of them were really nice and beautifully made.

OP, I know the feeling all too well. Played it out in my mind so many times it becomes tedious, when it should be fun.

My personal dilemma is that I've been riding single speed for a good 6 years now, and all off my SS bikes have been conversions. I really want a nice frame with sliding dropouts so I don't have to piss about with filing dropouts, axles and using half links. Since all of the kit I have isn't modern, on top of the cost of a frame I'd need, disc wheels, disc brakes and suspension corrected rigid forks. It all adds up to a tidy amount but I'll get there one day and have that 2011 Kona Explosif. It's just something to look forward to.

The guy who said that getting the frame first is spot on. The rest will follow.
