Funk Pro Comp on eBay

yes - and a little slow to respond, too -- sorry.

I dropped the bike over at R&A Cyscles in Brooklyn today to have them yank the BB -- the first thing they noticed is that the threads inside the drive side crank arm where you would isntall the crank extractor (not the BB) were stripped -- making removing the crank quite a bit tougher (but not impossible).

I'm speculating that this was the reason the previous owner indicated the BB couldn't be removed.

Either way, they will do this tomorrow to get at the BB's fixed cup (also on the drive side). My guess is that once the crank is off, the BB will come out without too much difficulty.

I'll update the ebay listing and add pictures to the picassa album either way (hopefully with the BB out...)

Regards,
Braden

That is good news.

BB came out quite easily

So the shop called, and once they had the crank off, the BB came out with no issues.
I will pick it up tomorrow (Friday in NY) and try to get some pictures up in the evening.
Thanks for your patience!

So how does the bike ride?

Have to say I'm very tempted by this but not sure I could live with the colour despite its originality. Frame and fork together though in this condition, mmmmmmmm.........

Sounds like a job for Jon Rock

some bad news

So I left work early to go pick up the bike, and yes, the BB had come out wihtout a problem. I got home and was getting ready to take some photos, but the non-drive side threads didn't look too great.

So, I've now taken it back to the shop to have them chase the threads - I'm going back over later this evening to pick it up and see how it looks

I didn't anticipate this as it rode fine (actually quite nice), and I didn't have any problems with the BB, although I my riding was limited...

Given it's so close to the auction end, and this is bigger news/still unclear -- I'm going to end the auction and relist for next weekend. It's too short notice, and I just don't anticipate having enough time to adress it...

I'll post pcis of the chased BB shell to the picasa album tonight.

Thanks and my apoologies for the inconvenience!

photos

So, the drive side looks good, but the first 5-6mm of theads on the non-drive side of the BB are stripped

photos are up here:

The good is that beyond that it gets significantly better, and the threads are pretty fine. The shop installed a square taper Shimano cartridge BB, and were able to tighten it up without any issues (of course they didn't attach a crank and thrash it in the woods..)

The previous BB was in there when I got it last year -- I rode some, but not much, and didn't experience any problems. The original adjustable cup has a thread depth of about 13-14mm, and with the lockring on, would have had what looks like 8-10mm of threads insterted.

I would guess that the a standard strength loctite would help significantly for a cartridge style BB.

I'll try to update and relist at some point over the weekend with the new info (althout at this rate it could be another week...).

Sorry and Thanks!

While it isn't perfect, I would say as long as you can get a BB in straight and tighten it, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it. Like I said before, I did this to my Specialized M2, had to chase the threads and had no problems with it at all. I rode that bike hard for 3 years before I sold it.
