Dropper post for a 1991 Stumpjumper - reasonably feasible?

I have a new Trek Roscoe 7 MTB, which is a great bike. I have become especially appreciative of the dropper post.

Which makes me wonder... is a dropper post reasonably feasible for my 1991 Stumpjumper, without getting crazy expensive? My reasoning: a dropper post would make mounting and dismounting a lot easier for me.

Not sure of the fit to the seat tube diameter. I know that the cable would have to be routed along the tubes, but not sure if a dropper would even be fairly straightforward with this vintage bike.

I'm in process of converting this beloved Stumpjumper toward being essentially a city bike - with a more upright riding position, and more pavement oriented 1.75" tires.

I know there are remote control droppers, but I think they are too costly to be worth it.

Any thoughts on this?

If your seat tube diameter is 27.2, you can find some droppers in that size. You'll need an externally routed one unless you fancy drilling a routing hole in both the seat tube and down tube (2x for the latter).

If your post is 30.9 or 31.6, many more portions available.

For external cable routing neatness, you could look at the disc hose adapters which bolt into a standard cable guide. Get a double and you can retain your current cabling and add one for a dropper. Or I think you can get things which clamp over your cable outer allowing you to run the dropper cable alongside an existing one.
