Specialized M2 Info Thread/Serial Registry

I have a ‘92 Ned 500 here are some picks. Still has the Suntour seat post but I changed everything else to Shimano XT/XTR. Sadly with the popularity of mountain bikes during this time, Suntour lost it’s place and parts and warranty were really difficult to get a hold of in the mid 90s.

Serial is 92T1256-6. Came originally with a hard Fork, I held onto it for a long time before I finally discarded it. I remember I put specialized shock on it that had titanium hardware. The geometry on this frame was for a stiff fork, so when you put the suspension fork on it, it raised the front end of it up a bit. Specialized and everyone else started adjusting geometry to compensate for the rise of the suspension fork in the following years. This bike was so fast and so light back then. The rear derailer mount is not replaceable on this model. I remember cringing every time I had to bend it back into place.

Hi! And happy new year by the way! My father's 1992 M2 Pro still has the original cup and cone Specialized CB-1 bottom bracket installed. But the original spindle has been ditched for a Shimano one with wrong length years ago. Does anybody know the correct spindle length? From what I can guess, it should be in the 125-127mm range. Thanks!

Which cranks does it have? M730 XT? Specialized Flag? It’s definitely >122mm.

My 19" 96 FS

I have a question about this, I'd like to build it up as a rigid, I bought it as a bare frame. Did these come with rigid or were they all specced with suspension forks. Is there a Specialized rigid fork that would be the appropriate length to use?

By 1996 I believe all models had suspension, I do remember there were 1995 rigid models. I believe you need a rigid fork that’s corrected for 80mm travel as that’s the max these can safely take, so 18” axle to crown maybe?

Is it repainted? I don’t recognize that color…

Thanks for that info. It is not repainted but I was lighting the photo with a torch It is a much darker blue IRL.
Same as the blue 98 comp on the fist page I think.
Cheers

If you could send a pic of the decals, that would be great, I only know of one 96 in that color and it has the newer style dropouts, while yours has the older ones. The three shades of blue I know the 96 models came in are all different from this one (two catalogued and one not)

There was a rigid M2 in 1996 too, that would have been the last years of rigids.
