drilling holes in things

Knackers the structural strength for starters.
Take a length of alloy sheeting, say 1/2mm thick. In itself it is quite strong and rigid. But drill holes all over it and it crumples like tinfoil.

If you want the bike to weigh less, then buy a lighter bike ;)

+1 and most drill in the wrong place, size and finish, creating more stress risers for the frame to endure. And when all done, the weight saving is paltry.

Funny this. I just had a bitch about the moron who invented putting holes in sand-paper.
