Help identify: Pre 90s GT Frame & mid 90s GT Frame

i flacked of some paint with my thumbail.
the SN is
TM
T8901 0079

so a Timberline from 89?
Oh, that's interesting. TM = Timberline makes sense and matches some 1988 formats which used two letters to indicate the model. Very helpful, thank you! That's the best guess then - I'll have a look to see if I can find another with the chainstay ubrake!

Also, if you want to get the 1989 riding again then you could measure what length fork you need (I assume 1" steerer?) and put up an ad in the wanted section. Someone will probably have a suitable one for a reasonably cheap price.

All the 1989 Timberline pictures show a chainstay ubrake. That is probably a failure of memory on my part!

thats quite cheap...ill try it at the pharmarcy an the hardware store tomorrow.

Chemistry not so much for my thesis, my study subject is renewable energies...and my thesis is more located around smth QA related (i mean electrolysis isn't to far, and i tried to find out if KOH would work aswell, because we use it in electrolysers at work, if i am not mistaken it could, but it might be even more unhealty).

maybe the old SN style because its a really early 1989 frame? 01 should mean from january, right?
It has been waiting for 3 years now to be made beautiful again, haha...but the first step would be to remove the paint and powder coat it, at in current state it got quite some rusty spots...maybe this winter.
Yeah it a 1" fork, with a kinda long shaft...min. 235 proabaly more like 240mm.
I have found even a new one somewhere but i didnt order it yet.

Yes, it will have been made in January. I don't really have enough 88 and 89 serials to form firm conclusions as yet.
Powdercoat is usually the cheapest option and you can get some nice finishes these days.
Worth a shot with a wanted ad - if someone has one it is likely to be cheaper than a new one and most likely better quality.

I can't confirm anything regarding GT serial numbers, but I do know that under stay u brakes only really appeared for a year or two. The vast majority are 1988 bikes, so early 1989 wouldn't be hard to believe
