Well i had half my disc space on my hardrive before loaded up and was left with 4%
after it loaded so maybe my netbook just has a small memory but at the end of the day i couldn't do anything without constant reminders to clean the harddrive and everything was running real slow and the system just kept on crashing and before you suggest that shouldv'e cleaned the hardrive i did that after i 1st encountered issues with it to no avail ..

That's fair enough, guessing the rollback backup and tempo downloads for installation wouldn't help. Clean should have sorted it normally, but must just be near the limit. Low hardrive space is never good. Tell my Android phones that :-(

I'd certainly ly move back then if it worked or stick a higher drive in if it was worth it.

The net book i use is around 7 year old now and doesn't have android on it and too say the least it was reconditioned when i bought so i don't think spending money on it is worth while as i don't know how much longer it will survive due to all the use it's had ..

This is why I run Linux.
Good idea. I recently bought a Raspberry Pi 3, so I'm learning about Linux.

I don't have to worry about Microsoft or Apple or Google monitoring my apps, cos my phone looks like this.... :D

That looks more modern than mine actually  ..

I loaded it a couple of months ago & it played havoc with my fan repeating going on & off that it got annoying & even with there latetest updates nothing sorted it so went back to 8.1 & happy for it to stay that way as I'm not after the latest gimmick especially when it doesn't work properly...................

The Pi3 is the first properly usable revision w.r.t. as a desktop. The 0i2 was close but still was that little bit slow.
You'll find the web browser a bit limited if using Raspian, but you can get chromium working on it and that is quite nice at the moment as an alternative

Me I've have a range of Pi's and bit n bobs and use Linux based OSs many times before as attempts to use as an everyday desktop/laptop. Still never been quite there for my use.
(Perfect for the PI though)

With Win10 rolling BASH and some Linux setup into Win10, I'll give that a go as well.

Tough, youre getting it anyway.
Nah, i reckon you pressed a button at some point. Or someone did. It doesn't install itself. Not to mention all the hoops you've got to jump through and buttons you've got to press. It might have downloaded it, but not installed. You can just delete the download.

We've got 5 computers, all eligible and capable of W10. 2 of them it's really not worth it as they are ancient (very very early W7, or even XP era with a W7 upgrade) both of them are regularly used (and updated) and have not mysteriously migrated to W10. The other 2 are now running linux as the W10 upgrade encouraged me to have a play. It's not "unuseable crap!" it's just not plug and play, which windows is. Fixes to windows require (on the whole) virtually no IT knowledge. Linux regularly requires some tinkering and tweaking and possibly some manual changes to programs/registries and so on. They are both sat next to stereos and used as jukeboxes.

And FWIW none of the PCs i look after have updated, Well, except for one who accepted the update (against my advice!). And killed it.

You can also prevent most (all?) of the data sharing from W10, just need to have a play with the settings, but seeing as i'm not a terrorist and don't use my PC to stream copious quantities of porn, it doesn't actually bother me massively.

Oh, my W10 machine is now faster, runs cooler and uses the RAM more effectively and the OS disc is less full than it was running W7. All in, it's an improvement. (OS disc is 128GB SSD have another 120GB SSD in there for video processing and two 1TB drives for storage........ think the total memory in use is actually less than half a TB. )

Think i might need to start moving some stuff about.......

Nope. Computer runs through the TV screen, and i switch between
Im sitting in the front room at about 1am. The computer is on, i was using it but now its all shut down and on desktop. sitting quietly doing nothing. So i pressed nothing and being alone nor did anyone else.
Then theres the 20million complaints currently hounding MS and several (US) based class actions.
Hardly think everyone pressed a 'button' :?

Slower overall. Especially on boot up. went from 12 seconds to near 30. I have no 'load of crud' installed because this in my gaming alienware set up and its got nothing but a single browser that the gaming servers use, and no extras that require updates etc etc. No apps, no nothings. Game game game and all on ultra no matter the game, at over 100fps on average.
I ran a bench test a bit back for cs:s and got back near a thousand fps

My verdict is its too intrusive and sucks up ram like a sponge(looks liek its using 20%, maybe more instead of the 12% im usually running on. For some reason it really really likes to interact with google :? :?
