Deore LX Parallax hub

I've got these hubs on my '91 Kona, with a 7spd cassette, been on for years, just wondered if the hub (FH-M563) would be compatible with an 8spd cassette?

The M-563 hub has a seven speed freehub body and as such can only be used with a 7 speed cassette.

However, it is possible to remove the 7speed freehub body and replace it with an 8/9 speed one, using cone spanners and a 10mm allen key.

You'll also have to play around with the axle spacing and then re-dish the wheel.

By sheer coincidence, I did this exact same job to an M-563 hubbed rear wheel yesterday evening.

Blimey, that sounds a bit involved for a luddite like me... perhaps I'll just wait for the hub to curl it's toes up and start from scratch.

You might have to wait a while - I've got an M563 that's done around 35,000 miles... and the bearing surfaces are still pristine
