Hi guys. Thought I'd share my project. I picked up this 1991 Marin PM from a barn in Cumbria about 10 years ago with an idea to spruce it up and use it. Needless to say I didn't get around to it and it sat in my garage untouched and unloved until a few weeks ago when I met a guy near me riding a 90's mountain bike he'd restored so it gave me impetus to get on with the Marin.
I tried to retain the Zolotone paint and treated it with vinegar and light brushing for days on end but eventually decided I wouldn't be able to live with the rusty look so got her media blasted and powder coated. We couldn't get an exact match on the dark Zolotone or the fluorescent orange but I dont want a museum replica so was happy to go with some colours that are just about right. I'll be refurbing and using the original wheels and groupset. I'll change the saddle probably to a flite titanium and will replace the chain for a new one. Headset is done now and back on the bike with stem and bars. Canti brakes are cleaned and reinstalled but not cabled up yet. BB is sat in white spirit to remove the old grease which has turned to black tar. So next steps are to reinstall the BB, chainring and cranks. Then onto front and rear mechs and cables and finally will sort the wheels and hubs. Decals courtesy of Gil. Hope you like it!
