damaged frame - heavily corroded and cracked

Back on topic though. Once you get past the you got ripped off stage. Thats repairable.... grind it back, Cut the rust out and weld it up, Grind it back and done...

If your not ok doing that ,Im guessing a car bodyshop or a frame builders would do it no problems...

Been looking at this same topic in the for sale thread and wrote:

"The non original decals look as if they may have been put there deliberately to hide a fault, whether by this bloke or the person he got the bike off.

Not sure about the legalities and you could be on dangerous ground calling him a fraud as he may have been inadvertently passing on a dud bike, but ethically he's in the wrong.

I notice that he's got a lot of posts, as far as I can see all in the selling forums, so is he a dealer? Any rules about that on Retrobike (Commercial Trading??).

Definitely put something on his feedback thread."

It looks as if he is a dealer and surely the rules are clear with regard to not allowing commercial trading on the site, why can't they be enforced?

Interesting turn to this thread.

I was aware of this case and had spoken to both parties. The user has been banned. Had been in contact with him and he had promised to square things up but clearly hadn't.

The fact he is a trader is news to me.

If he wishes to be allowed back here he needs to

a) sort out the chap to whom he sold this cracked frame
b) indicate if he is a dealer or not

They can and just have. If myself and the mods are unaware he / she is a trader how on earth do you expect us to ban him as such.

I think he owns a bike shop and sells some of the retro stuff on here . I see nothing wrong with that . both parties win .

dealt with him in the past and it was fine .

A whole new tube, more like - seat tube, I presume?
A frame builder would certainly do it (probably about £100 though) but a car bodyshop is the last place that I'd be taking it  .

Not criticising you for not having done it in past, just meant to say that it should be looked at now this thread has raised the issue.

Is there any problem with traders using the site as long as they make it clear they are a trader, as several members have said they have had good dealings with him?

Yeah personally id do the work myself. And given the choice if i needed , Then a good frame builders...
By bodyshop i didnt mean slap of filler type body shop. I meant real panel beater body shop... Old skool.

You wouldnt need to put a whole new tube in with steel would ya?, Cant see how that would make any difference? It could be cleaned up after welding to remove any trace.... And being a seat tube its not the most strained...

Id weld it up... But thats just me... :D

It depends on whether it's cracked because of internal corrosion or not.
If it has, then welding it isn't really going to cure it.
