Copenhagen biking

Evening all,
everyone enjoying the interminable weather?

I'm off to Copenhagen and was wondering if any of you knew what the cycling scene is like out there, good routes or is it all city riding?

Also, I was planing on taking my bike out there with me, worth it or should I just hire a tanker? How would I go about getting it over there if I decide to take my own, DHL or something or hand luggage?

Any good shops things to look out for over there? I know it's meant to be super expencive but surely with so many bikes I could find a bargain frame in there somewhere or should I just not bother?

I think they finish a week or so before I get there? Heading out on the 26th september for a holiday, 10days.

Hi work in Copenhagen (but live in Sweden).

Copenhagen ranks alongside Amsterdam as one of the world's most cycle-friendly cities. It would be easy enough to hire a bike here but it's always more pleasurable to ride one's own machine.

There are numerous bike shops here but I can't think of one that stands out as particularly interesting. There are so-called 'design' bikes such as the Søgreni. I can't say I find them particularly inspiring. I find it quite surprising how Copenhagen has such a healthy cycling culture in terms of the use of the bike as transportation yet lags behind in terms of framebuilders/ bike brands. Even in relation to the trend of fixed gears, I think Danes are followers rather than trend-setters.

I do have Danish friends who are very interested in bikes - restoring classic, English lightweights.

It makes you appreciate the richness of our cycling history in the UK when compared to most other countries. As a Swedish resident and swedophile, I would love to find a classic, Swedish lightweight but I'm not sure such a thing exists (save for some mass-produced Crescents).

So, there's nothing too interesting in Copenhagen for bikes? That's a real shame! :? :shock:
