I've always loved the look of the dog bone shaped Cook Bros cranks. Never owned a pair myself, but considering getting a pair for a Slingshot build that I'm collecting parts for.

Seeing @Silverfish cranks up for sale last week (sadly too long) reignited my thoughts about getting some! 🤔

I've seen plenty of builds with them, but just wanted opinions on robustness, longevity etc. Anything to watch out for. Also I know they do CBR and RSR. I guess the CBR are more costly/desirable due to age and originality whilst the newer RSR are more likely to break due to machined back although potentially cheaper? Have zero interest in their newer E cranks...

Many thanks for reading and look forward to hearing thoughts, both good and bad. ;)

the RSR is a beautiful crank, whether you run a CBR or RSR really depends for me on the year of the build - RSR’s came later
I'd be happy with either as they look the same from side-on! The Slingshot frame is a 1993, but will be opting for some earlier components as I prefer the look of them.

Having owned 4 different variants, the Es were awful and flexy, CQP nope, the CBRs needed a 130mm axle and were too flexy as a result but the RSRs…love em. Got 5 sets on bikes wirh 127mm axles and they are choice. Nice and stiff under load due to the later spider design, durable, easy to refurb if needed and they look good.

Great insight! So CBR in RSR flavour. Just need to find them in 171mm length and without a crazy price tag if that is ever possible @Silverfish were perfect bar the length as more than happy to restore…
