Complete rebuild of 1990's MTB to 2016 XT spec 1x10

An update....

Today during lunch and after work I decided to fit some of the items I purchased over the last couple of weeks to help reduce the number of boxes under my work desk. So as a result I installed all the items onto the handlebars. Everything went well fitting the gear selector for the rear derailleur and the brake levers. Once fitted the new rubber 130mm hand grips eventually went on after applying a little fairy liquid. Over the next couple of days the fairy liquid will dry and harden securing the grips for the future. I also started fitting the inner and outer brake cables.

Very small update...

I forgot to say that I did a comparison in weight today of the new derailleur hanger compared to the weight and design of the original standard hanger set up.

Tomorrow I will start installing my version onto the bike.

So much effort, such a great attention to detail. All ruined by the brakes

Sorry to say that. But I really hope you don't regret that choice one day...

(The seat post isn't pretty either, but you can change that easy later on...)

The rest of your build is great! Thanks for sharing.

Re:

I'd fit some classier brakes and shifters but that hanger is well lush!

I don't think I'll be able to bear it when this build finally concludes... I loves it I does!

Classier than XT?

Re:

Beware newrider,

It's a slippery slope, first they get you with a simple seat post upgrade, then you'll want to to match the stem, then improve the performance of the brakes....next thing you know your changing the frame... 5 bikes in the garage later you're wondering "how did I get here?"

If you ever find yourself looking at Chris King heatsets with a gleam in your eye ....it's too late.

Welcome to the club!
