I am just very surprised that it has been 3 Days without update on the topic :p

I know its terrible isn't it. The penalty of having to wait for a third party to do their bit. Do not worry I will get back on track... :D

An update...

During lunchtime today I built up the handlebars and installed them on the bike. I have set them where a roughly think they need to go and tightened everything down. Tomorrow I plan to start building up the everything required for the handlebars as this has now all arrived from Chain Reactions.

I also collected my finished bespoke hanger tonight. I plan to start installing it over the next couple of days and will put photos on as the build progresses. The hanger itself has worked out really well and the measurements have worked out exactly right so everything should work as planned through the prototypes. One surprise has been the weight of the hanger. I have struggled to calculate its finished weight due to the lack of knowledge of how to calculate the finished shape even though I have designed each detail. In the end having weighed it, it has come out at 58 grammes and doesn't feel massively different to the two elements I designed this to replace while incorporating the extra offset for the 42t. I will weigh the original two parts tomorrow so I can compare their actual weight differences.

Anyway photos below...

You may have ruined that part. Now I can only see it as a bottle opener. He may have to have another one made for his bike. After that comment, if it were mine, I would only be able to use it to open Fat Tire beer bottles.

Wasn't there an actual hanger that did have a bottle opener built into the back of it??? I'm certain I have a memory of such a hanger.

I think if we had a Build Thread of the Month poll this one would take it out...

I know most build threads happen over more than one month, I'm just suggesting counting the month it was completed.

I'm also aware that the BotM's are supposed to have a build thread and there could be an argument that those could be looked at as Build Thread poll too. But not all builds are about producing something that would compete in a BoTM Poll.

Might be a way to increase the number of build threads?

I know since I'm not producing BotM builds I'm pretty lax about taking all the photos required to post a decent build thread.

Actually, thinking about the number of build threads I guess it'd probably be best as a Build Thread of the Year Poll?

hmm...I think I'm rambling and getting off topic here...

Great Build Thread Newrider! Looking forward to seeing it completed...maybe you could put a bottle opener into the design of RD Hanger v2.0.

Re:

Well, being one who hand-fabricated a new backing cage-plate to convert a regular M-900 rear mech to a long-cage unit from a sheet of scrap aluminum (which piece turned out beautifully, using only rudimentary hand-tools nonetheless) ... I can attest to the feeling of satisfaction that comes along with creating a bespoke part for a project, if the part turns out as was hoped for (or better).

Keep up the great work ... !!

Hi Guys

I can see the bottle opener likeness since its been mentioned. The chap who made up the design for me decided it was a new mini sized multi tool for a bike. I suppose that was bound to happen since I only told him it was a prototype for use on a bike!

Thank you for the compliment at the suggestion that my build could be good enough for any BofM threads ( existing or not ). I started this only with the aim to rebuild my dad's bike into something a little bit different having tried a friends 1x11 bike. I have always enjoyed engineering and trying to look for new solutions to things to make an item more interesting.

This week I plan to start fitting the hanger so will update as we go along.
