Colnago Master Olympic- info please?

Yes, I did thanks. Looks really good built up.

What was the problem with the way it was built originally, you mentioned you weren't happy with it?

Super, i'm pleased you like the bike.

Everything really was wrong with 2006 build. The folks were on another bike and i invested in some carbon folks with an aluminium steer and they were just awful. The stem could not give me the height that i need and i could only ride on top of the bars. The seat post did not give the laid back position that i needed and the seat kept slipping of the rails. It caught me out once, when it happend i had a very uncomfortable 25 miles ride back home standing up. After a while i had to keep stopping as my hands and wrists kept cramping. They were numb for ages afterwards.

I had a few mechanics take a look at the gear change but for some reason the original Dura-Ace equipment would not work properly and the transmision was terrible. I replaced the cassette with a new Dura-Ace 9spd 11 -21, which they still make thankfull, i replaced the original shimano chain with a KMC chain, which cost £35.00! and i replace the 7700 Dura-ace hub with a 7850 Dura-Ace, a very lucky find, and thankfully it's done the trick. I'm now getting the transmission that you would expect from Dura-Ace.

The seat post is a loan from the bike shop as i have snapped my FSA K-Force seat post not one but twice in six months. Can you believe it! I'm Gutted!!

I Just got some really bad advice in 2006 from some one that was a salesman and not a cyclist.

I could go on! but you get the drift!

I suggested brick lane bikes as a possible source for kit i had a look on their web site yesterday and there does not appear to be much there for the Colnago but they are worth a phone call. The place i can also recomend is Condor Cycles they are a super place to do business with and they might be able to help with equipment.

My remaining wish list for the bike:

Get the rust on the rear triangle sorted and a possible re-spray in Mapie blue?
Royce titanium bottom bracket, nice!
Mavic race Sl TI road peddles.
Garmin edge 800 with full bundle GPS

That's going on for another £1000+. Once i have achieved that then thats it, it will be as good as my money can make it.

Please let me know when you have a complete bike i would like to see how you have set it up.

Thanks :D

Colnago build- need inspiration

Hi

I'm in the process of building my Master Olympic and have all the components except stem, bars and saddle.

Can anyone give me info on what those parts would have been in 1996?

Also, what colours of saddle and bar tape would have been used on a bright yellow Olympic?

Thanks
Ernst

3TT, cinelli bars stem, bars 64-42. Netto did nice bars as well. Saddle might as well go for something up to date. Bar tape please refer back to my last comment. White tape is looking good on my Colnago.

Hows it looking so far?
and
What groupset have you used?

regards.

Congratulations, you have done a nice build. I've always been a Shimano fan and the 7410 is one of my favourite groupsets and it takes it's place on the bike. I noticed you have gone for the old style pedal which is interesting.

Did you manage to get the frame touched up? Was it a full respray or just going over the areas that needed doing? I would be interested to know and the place you went to get it done, as i will have to look at getting mine done perhaps next year sometime.

Treasure it, it's a classic and it beats hands down, in my opinion, all these silly looking sloping frames that have now taken over the market.

regards.

Hi

Thanks. The frame hasn't been touched up but it's interesting that once fully built, the paint chips aren't so noticeable.

The pedals are a cheap set of MKS platform types. I prefer toe straps to clips and they look correct.

Next steps? Ideally a Record or Chorus 8/9 groupset and a set of Campag Shamal wheels.

It will have it's first ride tomorrow, once the brakes and gears have been set up today.
