Boulder Bicycle Defiant?

You should be able to push in the top bushing with a correctly sized socket (if I remember correctly- 10+ years since I have touched an RS1).

Thanks, Elite. I was able to get them back together using a bathroom sink drain pipe 1 1/4" pvc. Had to hone it out a little more with a Dremel but it did the job. After all that time and effort, I find one side leaks. I was able to get Risse Racing in Oregon to quote me $100 for rebuild. I will most likely send them out tomorrow. Too bad. I was so close to getting a ride!

Question: If I decided to upgrade to a new pair of front shock, any advice on what I could fit with my 1 1/4" headtube size? Hope these aren't too dumb questions but I guess I would need to replace headset too? Stem? And how would this affect the ride?

I think Gil_M got the file and could do copy
You got an RS1 and need those decals (in black on the white legs, of course)
;)

Re:

Excellent job on the resto, white looks great on Boulders!

New forks would raise the front end to strange new levels, these are short travel bikes and probably handle quite nice with the original equipment (though I can't say because i've been unable to ride mine yet).

Will you be dropping the stem down when finalizing the build?

Great job!!

Thanks, Pierre (?). Are you the one with that awesome Ti Defiant?

Let me know if you find the graphic.

Derrick, thanks. I'm going to try my best to keep the forks original. I am not sure what you mean by dropping the stem.

No, not with this one. The Gazelle was designed specifically for the RS1, which was quite a long fork. I popped a manitou on my Gazelle and it was fine. Sped up the handling a bit but fine. I popped the RS1 on a contemporary Fisher of the era and it was like a chopper. Far too long compared to rigid forks of the day. The RS1 as originally supplied is definately the purest choice, and especially this one, it looks great in white.

Yes, it's my Defiant and yhanks for saying it's awesome
I've got an original set of the RS-1 decals. I have to scan and vector drawing them.
After, I can send you the file for cutting them in vinyl :D

I know it looks awful removing original paint but there were enough scratches with rust and plus it's really my girlfriend's bike from her basement. She was going to throw it out until I saw it. And once she/we saw how nice you guys refinished these Boulder Bikes we got into a full redo. She requested a white color.

THROW IT OUT? thank goodness you caught that before she did!!!

Excellent rescue and restoration!!!

this should get moved into the reader's section.

Thanks guys. In an effort to keep the bike as close to original as possible, I sent the RS1 forks to Risse Racing to get them refurbished.

Pierre, your Defiant is one of the nicest I have seen. Incredible job. Did you get decals and headbadge? I found an artist who specializes in making bicycle headbadges. She says she can replicate Boulder badges exactly but wants to take her own mold with her own equipment to do it right. She would need the badge off the bike so she can mold both sides of it. Anyone have a badge they want to send her to make the mold? If this is done, then we will be able to supply anyone in the future with a Boulder Bicycle a perfectly replicated headbadge.

Yes, RockiMtn, the bike was a hair away from ending up in a landfill.
