Bikes that got you started in Mountain Biking.

an 85 or so puch that my mums cousin had , borrowed it when on holiday there in 86 , had a great time on the local trails with him and some of his mates
a raliegh maurauder after that , which made me realise how good the subsequent DB topanga was that i got in about 89

A black Falcon with white forks and white stem, can't remember the name or year, maybe 87, was the first 'real' mountain bike with cantis.etc but had been using a Raleigh Bomber to do trails and stuff.
Never been able to find a pic of the Falcon.........

1986 - a random 20" Rayliegh that i put flat bars on
1987 - emelle 12 speed atb

but my first real one was a:
1988 - specialised rockhopper (awesome)

My fathers Gary Fisher Hoo Koo E Koo (1990 I Think).

Nice frame. Stiff....a bit heavy though.

The bike had som really crappy Suntour equipment........but we put Shimano DX/XT stuff on it bit by bit and that made a big difference.

.....I still have the frame........and the wheels....somewhere.

:)

...well to break from the norm...what got me into mountain biking was a Raleigh Super Burner BMX with Skyway mags! I moved house in the mid 80's from a road estate to the countryside and woods on my doorstep! I had so much fun over the woods on my burner...which got me wanting more speed over the trails I grew to love! And there it was "the answer" MTB! A Raleigh mustang (big mistake) but then a Marin Muirwoods and that was I suppose the 1st real MTB that convinced me this was the way forward!...many years later at 38 still loving the buzz!

this was my first bike :D

but hey im only 23 now ;)

1989 Marin Bear Valley, lusted after an overburys in the lbs window that my mate bought now the frame hangs in my garage waiting for parts !

I shared a house with a wee scots guy who had a mountain bike and would come home muddy each siunday - I never really got it, especaiolly all them gears as I was very much into road riding.

not sure want made me change my mind but i bought a light blue 22 inch (yep, miles too big) Trek 850 (1992 vintage?) in 1/2 price sale .... and never looked back. (never seen another one of these)

after stripping, the frame and forks were sold, the components going onto a 20" green Saracen Kiliflyer frame + fokrs. this was dark green with funky grpahics and internally routed cables, again never seen antohehr one of these.
