Been Bag Cycle Clothing Ltd

Re:

Yeah, the "Orange" mountainbike clothing I have has the Beenbag logo on it, I never knew where it was actually made, thanks for the background information, very interesting!
I'm sure that Beenbag is one of those names that many of us Retrobikers can remember from the 80's and 90's :)

On eBay recently there has been some nice classic styled road jerseys by BeenBag, I've only got Orange branded stuff though :) .

Thanks everyone - Wow it's great to hear from you!

I will post on the road cycle forum too thanks for the tip! Yes, Mick Bradshaw was a sponsored been bag rider i think...he had a really bent over style so logo's were put on the top of his back upside down so they could be read from the front!

Those black ribbed tights were a best seller and remember making many pairs over the years in the factory in Consett County Durham where they were based before Durham city!

Orange were a great customer of been bag's for many years - Lester Noble came onto the stand at Harrogate with a very rough sketch scribbled on to a scrap of paper that we used to design the original 'spotted' orange jersey - this was then rolled out into many other garments that you will be familiar with Ollie - might even have a few!

Muddy Fox were another customer of hers along with most key brands at the time.

Black and purple sound very 'been bag' :) The logo was black and white though and was a key colour for the DeRangeD range they did and their all over arrow design - the York rally was always full of bargains!

i don't remember Fat Chance - will ask Mum if she remembers :)

I will have to keep an eye on ebay - would be good to get a few things!

I will put the catalogue pick up tomorrow afternoon - think you will like it :)

Thanks again all!!

Re:

Hi Corinne

I wondered when someone would mention Been Bag on here. I was at Durham Uni back in 91-94... My claim to fame being that I was the first "Mountain Bike secretary" for the Uni cycling club, which until then hand been all roadies. That's another story,

Anyway, I was a frequent visitor to the crossgate store, remember buying some very garish cycling and Bermuda shorts but my prize purchase was a custom order. Dave Hemming (I think) wore a very cool black and white been bag/fat chance training top in MBUK one month and I had to have one. Headed to crossgate, handed over some of my student loan and waited. ...I wore that top everywhere, kept it for years but it is gone now alas. Might be able to find some old photos.

Thanks for prompting the fond memories of BITD.

Looking forward to seeing that catalog if you can share it!

Gary

That's the exact fat top that I thought had the bean bag logo - the others I have are a different make.

I will check and photo later :D

Re:

Found a couple of photos... Defo Been Bag top and shorts

The grimace was caused by Cypriot wine @£1 a bottle rather than the shorts...
