Not sure the petrols had DMFs, in 240000 miles never had that problem on my '99 1.8 petrol, but then I never had to change the clutch either.
1000rpm is high for a warm idle - should be nearer 875-900 (can't remember the exact figures), but will be higher if cold.
As others have said, I'd be looking at engine mounts - could be that at idle it's just hitting the wrong frequency and it's setting up a resonation path.
