Its a tough one, she loves her Bontrager, the way it rides etc, but by the same token shes not afraid to use it, scratch it up, lay it on the floor at the end of a trail easily re pwdercoated etc , I fear its the new paint thats doing it, and perhaps the provenance of it.

Now this is a hard one for me as I moved to bikes from cars, a passion I shared with my brother from an early age.
When I met my soon to be wife I owned a total of 28 of my own cars & another 25-26 part owned with my brother, I've always been adverse to anything going in the bin before it's time & am surrounded by people who know this "Ask David he'll probably have / find a home for this"
To many projects never works as you're spread to thinly & storage for vehicles, well if you can find somewhere for a large amount it won't be cheap down south.
It got to the point where I was beginning to wonder who was the slave & who was the master, so a cull was the order of the day. Now down to 4 cars & 6/7 part owned, however the urge to tinker & help the helpless remained.
The need to get some exercise & lose some weight prompted a push bike purchase but being me a new shop job wasn't going to cut the mustard & soon I ended up here add this to many trips to the tip due to living with a keen gardener & it was always going to end this way.
Bikes = generally easier to store, restore & more enjoyable than cars.

1600 or so bikes/ frames since 1986, always around 12 bikes in the shed at any one time.
Very few keepers but plenty of regrettable sales
Space is kept deliberately small so it doesnt go mad.

Built a bike for my Mrs when we first got together, new Orange Diva frame built with the parts from my 2007 Clockwork. We went for one ride, she had another with her mate then that was that. She now admits she just got it to impress me early doors and now we're married she will only ride it at Centre Parcs! :facepalm:

My Mrs thinks I have a problem, 4 retro bikes and 1 modern, 16 TLD Helmets, hundreds of stickers and Mags (all neat and tidy)
I do collect other small things but she is minimalist, I tried to explain these make me happy (not as happy as the family) and she is supportive to an extent...
In fairness she never made me sell anything which is fair enough but I get jip when multiple packages turn up every week
She also isn’t a huge fan of bikes as she fell and broke her ankle a couple of years back....

I do this, and I go the occasional month when I'm really pleased with myself for having spent very little or nothing - sadly though my brain interprets that as meaning I must be able to justify a larger purchase! :facepalm:

Some very useful pointers here. So thanks. Think I will try and set a bike limit (perhaps 12) keep a close eye on spending is very useful, and obviously sticking to perhaps an era is no bad thing. I am fortunate, or unfortunate, that my Achilles heal is that am not limited on space that much, just limited on my wife’s patience potentially!
