Withdrawn Antonin Magne 1951 Duralumin Frame

Retro Guru
Bonded aerospace tubing style, a genuine Antonin Magne Dural frameset. I would like to restore this myself, but too many modern projects on the go, not enough hours in the day!

It has several unique features: suspended bottom bracket like the Thanet Silverlight, triple cable guides for brakes and gears, top tube mounted gear lever boss, proper cute pump peg behind seat tube and the cut lugs! These Duralumin frames look dazzling when polished up. They were never supplied with forks, generally a 3rd party chrome fork was used.

Supplied with original smooth running Magne bottom bracket and Simplex chain guard. 55cm seat, 56cm top tube. The BB is 35mm so I'm guessing it's for French headset. No dents or any damage at all. Frame number is 3177, 'Societe du Metal de la Duralumin'. Mudguard eyes to rear.

I can't stand to see it sitting on a rack, someone needs to get this to concourse finish. A well finished version went for 3500 (euro) last year. See last photo.

£500 Reduced to £460. See last post for list of parts included in the sale.

Also have a period Ideale '52' Duralumin saddle to go with. Some more photos of finished projects (same Duralumin frame)

This is absolutely lovely. I would really love it but can't quite justify taking it on. Such an interesting frame though.

Thanks. A restoration is not as tough as you'd think: Lefol hammered mudguards are easy to source, same for Stronglight cranks, Lyotard pedals and Simplex gearing. This would probably be a 3 or 4 speed set up, on 700c wheels so readily available. The Jos lighting is still pretty cheap to buy, the only thing you'd struggle with is the twin play for the mudguard to take two headlamps - they can be expensive, but a doddle to make one up in aluminium. Any number of French brakes would suit, Bebolux my favourite.

This would be show winner/stopper wherever you went, if done with care 😘

Further to questions, I will throw in a pair of vintage French 700c chrome forks (Vitus tubing), good chrome, double butted ends and a French threaded Stronglight P series headset for the the buyer, to get you on your way. Also a nice period Mafac Dural Forge front brake with all the fittings. Found up in the attic last night! Gotta be £150 worth of value there. The forks are a good fit for the frame and would be contemporary to it.
