You're not wrong.... sheesh.
Just 4 tyres two cassettes and two chains is in the region of 90 quid :/
I'm resorting to using 90's half worn (*read : semi-slicks) treads to put on the Mongoose. The missus is getting the new ones, £9.99ea from CRC.
Really happy with the frame and forks Paul, thanks again.
Will get the forks powdercoated to save them from the elements, might even splash out on that frame-saver stuff too and treat them aswellas my steel bike.
The Ronds are ever so slightly misaligned, 1-2 mm I think going by eye.
They seem to have been loosened and then put back on squint. Can't budge the adjuster caps at the mo' hoping i can find someone who enjoys tinkering and has the time to have a looksee at them for me as they are gorgeous wee forks it'd be a shame not to get them sorted out.
I took the liberty of removing the cable guide at the seat-tube and changed over those square-nuts for an alloy adjuster nut (saving weight and adjusting the aesthetics already) which just came off my Hammer, fitted a new M-part collar to her - so that nut was homeless.
Do you have a crown-race fetish??!
Was looking forward to getting a headset on and the front-end when i noticed that the Spinners don't have one either!! I'll ask at the bike-station as they have sorted me out in the past.
Got a BB in the wanted section tonight, and a lead on STX cranks although i'm after RCs (for the final build : by then it'll be XTs no doubt
) all i need now are grubby scuffed up numbers, anything will do the job.
Gonna wrap tape round the frame and my Azonic bars, get that bolt and rotor off that wheel - ask around for some finishing kits and bang, transport for spring sorted.
Will definitely be keeping her and going for a full restoration in the future.
Forum folks are talking about those frames having a high BB but i'm so long out of the saddle i can't think what effect that would have on the ride charateristics :s
Thanks again.
@ TK - That sucks! Best wishes to the little guy for a speedy recovery.
My pal Dale (roadie) had it last year, he was in for a month if i remember correctly at the age of 35 or so... he's bounced back well.
Wonder if it attacks cyclists more than the general public or do you think it isn't that selective a bug?
Is there a direct link do we think between outdoors pursuits, exercise and pneumococcal pneumonia?
Sheesh!
