And today I did......

 Im needing to do mine too, 2 sets in fact and im also hating doing it.

I just cant get enough feel on the x2's. Too much travel in the lever before biting and the adjusters dont help it any.

Which brakes are you on about OCP ?

Talk me through the two syringe method then?

Dud mine today with the little bucket thing on the lever (shimano)

Wtf ?
Syringes , you lot aff yer face since I left ?

It's all cables and screws , an upgrade to Allen screws if yer posh , but ....

Re:

I use one syringe connected to caliper with clear tube then top up lever, Hope Mini, between pumps. I can see the air rising up tube to syringe so when no more came out I though all the air was out. Clearly it wasn't.

Partly fill both large syringes with appropriate fluid and connect to both bleed nipples via adapters and plastic tubes.Make sure the pipe fittings are secure as they will be under pressure. An extra pair of hands helps. Ensure both syringes are held plunger up so any air vents away from the brake. Push almost all the fluid 2 and fro i.e. from syringe to syringe gently squeezing the brake lever from time to time. The excess air will be forced out of the system at either / both ends and accumulates in the syringes forming a bubble by the plunger. if needed hold one plunger still and then use the lever to force the other plunger to move. Remove bottom i.e. caliper end first.

Re:

That wouldn't work with the Hope Mini lever as there are no bleed nipples on lever. Any time I've tried to push the fluid through caliper to lever via bleed nipple using a syringe, just results in brake fluid pishing out the bleed nipple threads as they aren't sealed and the fluid under pressure leaks.

Sorry, never noticed that bit earlier, they're Hope Original M4s with Mini levers, 180F/160R discs. They might be old but they don't lack power.
I just need to be more thorough bleeding them.

Re:

I replaced the hose on my Reverb Seatpost the other day, and shortened the rear (Shimano) brake hose and bled it afterwards just to be sure.
Modern Shimano with the "cup" you screw into the lever is essentially the same method as Hope brakes (where you just fill the lever reservoir with fluid and pump the lever/open & close the bleed screw).
The Reverb was same as Avid brakes, a syringe at each end and you need to grow an extra hand
Patience is key, and be thorough, or you'll be doing it again! gets easier and quicker the more you do it though.

I always found Hope brakes to have great power and modulation, but personally prefer a more on/off feel that I can get with Shimano.

Today's job is to set up suspension front & rear, then go ride :D

I like the servo action of the higher end shimano.
You can feel it contact and bite, then really bite. Shimano is good stuff

And cheap slx gets some of the best reviews of brakes in and above that price range.
