And today I did......

Good bit of engineering there Jon , like it

On the other hand, loosening off the bolt just enough to allow the crank to come loose when it frees, but not fall off also works.

You simply take the bike for a wee ride and bounce around a bit on the pedals until the crank frees up. Works most times.

Thanks Mike. 8)

Brian, it's not a square taper but a splined BB/crank, FSA Alpha Drive cranks and Power Drive BB. When I took off the DS crank, which was OK, I needed to keep screwing in the extractor bolt till it was virtually off. Not like a square taper where once you crack it they fall off. It wasn't my bike or I might have tried the riding till they fall off trick, but didn't want to possibly damage the crank.

And I'm just back from testing my brakes on the F800. The front caliper has been doing my head in with the pistons sticking so decided to change it. Took the bike along to the car-park at Vane Farm and rode, aye right, mostly pushed up the new foot-path that goes over the hill to the woods near Ballingry on other side. Had a wee explore there before our ride there tomorrow.
Coming back down foot-path was good, 32.5mph at one bit and 27+ on other bits. Wonder what the smell was at one point, no Ah hadnae shat ma kecks, it was the brakes, they were a tad hot after braking for all the hairpin bends on path. I'll need tae have a better go at bleeding it though, nearly to bars. Fecking hate bleeding brakes.

 Im needing to do mine too, 2 sets in fact and im also hating doing it.

I just cant get enough feel on the x2's. Too much travel in the lever before biting and the adjusters dont help it any.

Which brakes are you on about OCP ?

Talk me through the two syringe method then?

Dud mine today with the little bucket thing on the lever (shimano)

Wtf ?
Syringes , you lot aff yer face since I left ?

It's all cables and screws , an upgrade to Allen screws if yer posh , but ....

Re:

I use one syringe connected to caliper with clear tube then top up lever, Hope Mini, between pumps. I can see the air rising up tube to syringe so when no more came out I though all the air was out. Clearly it wasn't.

Partly fill both large syringes with appropriate fluid and connect to both bleed nipples via adapters and plastic tubes.Make sure the pipe fittings are secure as they will be under pressure. An extra pair of hands helps. Ensure both syringes are held plunger up so any air vents away from the brake. Push almost all the fluid 2 and fro i.e. from syringe to syringe gently squeezing the brake lever from time to time. The excess air will be forced out of the system at either / both ends and accumulates in the syringes forming a bubble by the plunger. if needed hold one plunger still and then use the lever to force the other plunger to move. Remove bottom i.e. caliper end first.

Re:

That wouldn't work with the Hope Mini lever as there are no bleed nipples on lever. Any time I've tried to push the fluid through caliper to lever via bleed nipple using a syringe, just results in brake fluid pishing out the bleed nipple threads as they aren't sealed and the fluid under pressure leaks.
