And today I did......

Which brakes are you on about OCP ?

Sorry, never noticed that bit earlier, they're Hope Original M4s with Mini levers, 180F/160R discs. They might be old but they don't lack power.
I just need to be more thorough bleeding them.

Re:

I replaced the hose on my Reverb Seatpost the other day, and shortened the rear (Shimano) brake hose and bled it afterwards just to be sure.
Modern Shimano with the "cup" you screw into the lever is essentially the same method as Hope brakes (where you just fill the lever reservoir with fluid and pump the lever/open & close the bleed screw).
The Reverb was same as Avid brakes, a syringe at each end and you need to grow an extra hand
Patience is key, and be thorough, or you'll be doing it again! gets easier and quicker the more you do it though.

I always found Hope brakes to have great power and modulation, but personally prefer a more on/off feel that I can get with Shimano.

Today's job is to set up suspension front & rear, then go ride :D

I like the servo action of the higher end shimano.
You can feel it contact and bite, then really bite. Shimano is good stuff 8)

And cheap slx gets some of the best reviews of brakes in and above that price range.

Re:

Went out for a ride with the girls today, first time since I had my op (February) and very enjoyable it was too AND didn't keel over so that's a bonus.

Thanks girls :D

Re:

A How-To I've seen about shortening brake hose manages to do it without bleeding afterwards. Think it's better with brakes that use mineral oil like Shimano and Magura etc as the oil is thicker, less prone to pishing everywhere. You start by taking out pads then pump out the pistons as far as they'll safely go, spacer helps here, then remove hose from lever. Shorten it as required, but keep the end facing up and above level of caliper, you don't want any leakage of fluid, then fit it back on to lever, open lever reservoir before pushing the pistons all the way back in and the air that will have gotten into end of cut hose/lever connection, will be pushed into lever reservoir through master cylinder.
I've done this once and found that it actually works.

It had better or I'm going to get very very cross
I'm needing some Formula hoses shortened.

I dished and trued up a wheel... almost: two of the nipples are rounded, right next to each other so it isn't true there!

Today I popped my cherry, I fitted my first TUBELESS  ........................................... lets hope it stays up, the tyre!

If it doesn't, don't blame the rims :)

This afternoon I ripped round the red at Glentress and spent an hour practicing jumps on my flat pedals. Getting there slowly but that Santa Cruz loves to fly.

Currently waiting on a burger before heading over to pick my new (old) steed for the June annual. First time I've had one of this breed.

Stared at my choice for the June Anual event, it stared back. Clue its a Trek and the terms pogo and boing have been levelled at it in the past.
