Here's a few pics, I'll try and find a YouTube video aswel. Also at the peak there was a sign giving distances to other great riding places, my tam, I'll be there in a few months, coed y brenin, done that, slick rock, done that, Switzerland, done that! So I think I'm doing well! :D

Re:

Thought I'd give a little update since a couple of weeks ago, life is pretty good here I have to say. Working in the shop is cool and I'll try and upload some inside shots later so you can see the shop, its pretty big, certainly the biggest shop I have ever worked in, 4 fulltime mechanics and about 4 or 5 fulltime on the shop floor. Its a very busy shop.

Riding wise I have been on my bike most days, in fact i worked out the other day that I have had only 5 days off the bike since being here, the last 7 days I have done 210km and that's bearing in mind my commute is now shorter than it was a while ago as I've moved accommodation, also I think the 210km is a slow week! I've only just fitted the speedo as I was curious about my milage.

Anyway here are some pics

Thus is what happens when you leave you Giant Glory in the way and it's the Xmas party, it gets zip tied to the roof of the warehouse!

We get all sorts of bikes to work on, an old Number

This is the workshop, 4 mechanic bays, the more expensive/new/delicate bikes get hung up, this amount of bikes in the workshop is normal, we typically are booked about 3 days in advance for workshop, most of these get emptied out each day and we have a separate area for when the bies are ready to go so every bike you see here is ready to be worked on.

Re:

You are either going to come home a shadow of your former self.... or start looking at ways to import your van into New Zealand.

Re:

No defo coming home, I can't imagine the winters here are that much fun, the temperature doesn't get as cold as the UK but apparently its wind and rain for months on end which sounds very typically English but at least we have Xmas to look forward to in the winter, here obviously Xmas is in the summer so not ideal in that way.

Besides ive applied for some jobs in the uk for when I return, or I may start my own shop, not sure yet.

Re:

Yeah the shop is cool and so are the staff, the main brands are specialized and giant with GT, surly, schwinn aswel as a bunch of bmx brands and some electric bikes.

Accessories wise its pretty much everything although I have noticed some issues with availability, mostly with shimano, the nz importer doesn't bring in as many options as the UK equivalent, for example I wanted to check whether it was cheaper for a customer to buy all 3 rings for his deore touring chain set, the 26/36/48 version, or simply buy the whole chain set, it was specced on his bike with this chain set, turns out I can get the rings but not the chain set, so the customer didn't really have a choice. Hope parts for example, hugely expensive here, formula brakes have no importer or service agent either, these sort of things can cause quite a few issues.

Sales wise its mostly mountain bikes, commuter, electric and kids bikes although the road side is growing, the nature of the cycling here suggests that mountain biking is more popular than road but then I can understand that as Wellington drivers are a nightmare so being away from them by being off road is a sensible option especially considering the trails available.

Overall though it's a well run store in both sales and workshop with a seriously high stock content with a website that is also growing, the shop is also very social, not just the staff but with customers aswel with demo days, social evening events and Pete the owner also sponsors quite a few local events and teams.

The photos are reasonably easy to take, frankly the iPhone us pretty good and its just a case of pointing it at something that looks good!

While I've been here though I have also been looking for work for my return, so my CV has gone out to a few UK companies but I'm still thinking about doing my own thing shop wise. We'll see what happens. :D

And Fagin, didn't know you were a kiwi!
