As far as I know, the 9 speed cassette on your second hand wheels might not be compatible with the CUES chain/derailleur? (Or at least so says Shimano)

this. Got an XT 9 spd derailleur for like.. US$10 from a redditor last week. It's well over 10 years old and still smooth as baby's butt.I'd just be inclined to source better components, perhaps second hand to be honest. You can build a 9 or 10sp XTR based drivetrain for not too much money. It might just be me, but high quality components win every time.
