'87 Raliegh Maverick Pro 531 Ilkeston SBDU GVOD

OK, so I dont like the original colour scheme. Too dull, to understated and difficult to replicate on my budget.

Option 1 is powder coat red and do the Raleigh Ti colour scheme

Option 2 is powdercoat yellow and do the Team Banana colour scheme

O[tion 3 is powdercoat pearlescent white and do the Panasonic colours

Any more for any more?

Found my way over from the Road bike section...

My thoughts:

Option 1 - This bike is too new to 'wear' the TI Team Colours

Option 2 - A possibility

Option 3 - As has already been said, this is closest in terms of the Maverick's age

Re:

love the 80s bikes great find. iv powder coated bikes before and they go dull after a few years and start to look like a plastic spade handle, so the last one i had done i had it lacquered by a friend and the finish is amazing.
iv got a frame at bob jacksons getting painted at the moment and they blast it and spray it £110 for one colour and you no its going to look tip top and takes all the, will it look like a spade handle worries away. i would go with a nice metallic

So disappointed I missed this when it was for sale, as I've been looking for one.
When I finally do get one it's going to be the full Red Ti Raleigh colour scheme.

Re:

How about a nice metallic powder coat?

I always like dark frame colours with predominantly silver components. I repainted a racing frame many years ago a dark metallic purple and I thought it looked great with polished silver components. I wish I had a picture of it.

This obviously isn't a bicycle, but you get the idea: :D

Dark metallic blue, green or red would work equally well, even perhaps a dark dharcoal/silver.

Having had a look through the brochures I found online it would seem the Banana colours were 1988 :(. This is a late frame though so I think it would still carry it off. I think the colours for the year were the Raleigh Weinmann team as they were certainly the team that was in place for the 1986 season, but they used the same colours as the earlier Panasonic team.
I still vote Banana as it's distinctive and one of the best combos Raleigh ever did.

Carl.
