1997 GT Lightning

So last year I bought this Lightning from eBay, I'd missed out on a Xizang so went for this. It belonged to someone here but can't remember who.
I rode it once as I bought it and it was awful. Kept catching the pedals and just general handling was bad. Some gears slipped and the BB was notchy. I ended up walking the last mile.
I realised halfway through that the forks had collapsed the moment I got on it, there was just enough of something inside to hold it up for the photos I got. IMG_2272.jpeg IMG_4376.jpeg IMG_2520.jpeg IMG_2519.jpeg

After that, it was stripped and the parts were either sold or binned.
This is what I was left with, the post is only there to hold it in the stand.

I've got some parts in the garage I have accumulated over some time, the wheels I'm using I've had around 10 years. None of this is going to be period correct, but I'm getting bored of looking at ti frames in my garage and yet riding the same old bike. Here's a shot of the wheels I'm using.

The 97 Lightning is such a good frame that they all deserve a nicer spec. That's kinda what GT assumed would happen i guess. People would add nice bits as funds allow.

98 ones were a nicer spec and could be left alone in my eyes.

Just found your 1998 OE thread and I've those exact forks with the gold/yellow too, on another bike I picked up from trebz. Wasn't sure about the yellow, when there's going to be a slight red thing going on.

Yeh the OE build went out the window in the end. It works really well to be fair , but there is a few changes Ill make at some point.
