1990 R.M.O. Gitane FINISHED! 9th May

Re:

Too many Surrey League races taken their toll? Or time trials?
If I were you, I'd sell the Battaglin and the Gitane, and with the proceeds upgrade the Colnago and keep that, selling the cheaper stuff on it.
It deserves better, IMO ;)

Re:

Got a bit more Frenchness to add to the bike today, as the tyres arrived!

Also found an old computer to put on, not a bad colour match methinks,

Having trouble getting hold of some sensibly-priced Ambrosio bar tape, let me know if any of you spot/or have some spare ;) . Either all white, white/black or white/yellow.

Re:

Hi folks, ;)

I have made some progress recently, so I thought I'd show you my work.

Got the saddle rails polished up nicely, along with the back plate

accidentally polishing the gold out of it  think it suits the bike though.

Also got the tyres, front brake cable and calipers on,

along with the computer and bar tape, one side.

Not sure if the tape will stay, or be replaced with Ambrosio type tape. Bit more comfort for my old hands

Found some nice pedals that go well with the bike I think,

I also got the chain on and gears cabled up, but seem to have stumbled on a problem.

Look at the position of the gear lever when in first gear on the block. I guess it's a consequence of having Simplex shifters with a small diameter, on an 8 speed block. However, 7th or 6th aren't much better though. So they may have to be swapped at some stage.
Here's how it is looking this evening.
BTW, I have now found some black gear outer cable, so will be swapping for the grey pictured soon

Hope to find some ferrules for the brake and gear cables, at the moment there aren't any, just outer cables going into stops

Re: 1990 Gitane, nearly finished, 18th April

White not white wall tyres? Not trying to piss on your parade, sir. I'm just not sure on the skinwalls.

Re:

I know they're a bit light, but that's how they were bitd. I used those back then. I like Rubinos and use them on other bikes but a bit modern for this one. Vittorias would also look good with their golden yellow sidewalls but at £20/pair more, a bit too much for me

I wouldn't worry about the down shifters, real men don't use the larger cogs on the rear :)

Well I might need them for that cobbled climb in Keighley!
Now, where can I get stepped brake ferrules? For both calipers snd top tube stops? Inside diameter is 5mm for all of them.
Looks a bit crap having just outer cable.
