1990 Kona Titanium - FINISHED PAGE 13

Re: 1990 Kona Titanium - Merlin Mountain content

Lookin sweet!!! my Kona Ti frame needs to be re-finished... I think it's a 1990... it's originally sandblasted but has not been treated well so i think a scrub with scotchpads would do the trick... what did you use? the Green 3M sheets??

I used the grey ones which were the finest ones they did. They're not 3M, just some generic brand I think http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271106134361? ... 1439.l2649

Thanks Nick, imagine trying to find a bargain if we all rode the same sized frames

Judging by my progress to date and considering my usual pace, maybe 2016

I have all the parts either in the shed or on the way so it's really just finding the time. I'm hoping by the end of March all being well.

Cool thanks! I'm not sure how it will turn out... my 89 merlin has the same naturally scuffed finish but this 90 Kona is sandblasted... I'll probably try in a hidden spot like under the BB shell to see how it goes

That's what I did. Is yours the one in the thread where you posted asking what it might be? I think there are a few anomalies with the Hei Hei's when trying to date them but yours won't be any earlier than 1991 as that was the first year for the Hei Hei.
Just get a selection of the pads and start with whichever one seems to make a decent amount of progress. Then work your way through the grades to get the finish you want :)

Yup, it was the unknown one, sorry, you are right, it's probably a 1991-1993. Ok cool, I'll start with a fine grit and see how it goes. I'll probably start a build thread tomorrow

thanks!

Re: 1990 Kona Titanium - Merlin Mountain content

After a lot of discussions it was thought that the TBG decal might have been on the head tube as with other Kona's of the year but having seen pictures of 1990 Brodies with the TBG decal on the seat tube, I decided to leave the original Merlin head tube decal in place and attach the TBG decal to the seat tube.

hi Adrian
loving it with all the new and old decals in place. looks great already.
and you are bang on with the above comment about the TBG decal on the seat tube.
good call mate. here's an example of a slightly older one.
