What is the longest ride you have done on your retro.

360k over a period of 24h I should have said, and only for distances of 400k and more.

    Suntour/Shimano compatibility

Interesting experience. It does remember me that I once used 7-Speed Command shifters with a Shimano STX rear mech on a 9-speed cassette. OK, that was while touring in Siberia so my level of technical perfection was a bit adapted to the local habits ;). Another question, for more of a road use...

What is the longest ride you have done on your retro.

273 miles on a day is perfectly well possible. Minimum distance you have to cover in any audax is around 360km, on a typical 400k event most riders finish in the 20-24 hour range.

What is the longest ride you have done on your retro.

Guilty as charged ;). Took my Koga Miyata Grantourer to both the Vologda-Onega-Ladoga and the Silkroute 1200. Both of them 1200km. I got through on VOL, at the Silkroute I had to quit after 1050km. Reports: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=213963 viewtopic.php?f=5&t=229174 Of course Drew Buck (not on this...

Who is riding to the TDF?

Especially if you take your bike with you. First watch them somewhere on the norhbound leg, cut through to the other leg, watch them a 2nd time and then retire to a pub, village square with big screen or a tent of the local bike club with a big screen.

I'm considering watching the stage on the cobbles in northern-France.

    Work leave notice

First have a calm talk with your current boss to see how the reality is. It all depends a bit on the situation at your old job. If they feel that they might have a bit too much people employed, they might be quite happy if someone voluntarily leaves. I am in such a situation. Old company is...

Even worse with this campaing is that ASA requires the cyclist to be in a dangerous road position.

Is the freewheel body of a 8Speeds Sachs identical to a 7S?

Re: Is the freewheel body of a 8Speeds Sachs identical to a The French framebuilder Gilles Berthoud gives the answer in two pictures: 7 speed: 8 speed: You can see in these two pictures that the difference is in one of the middle sections. So the body is different.

Is the freewheel body of a 8Speeds Sachs identical to a 7S?

Re: Is the freewheel body of a 8Speeds Sachs identical to a 8 speed blocks regularily pop up at the classic bike fairs in the Benelux, usually for very reasonable prices.

Splitting the road section into a separate site??

I voted for yes, using the recent messages thread results in a lot of clutter for pure road riders and making it very hard to catch up after riding for a day.

Any decent bikeshop could rethread the chainset for you.

    French pedal threads?

Depends where you look for it. A search on 'filletage français' on French ebay will give you a few hits, or use the official marking 14x1.25

    Mudguards fitted

This is the standard fitting of mudguards for a lot of low end urban bikes. That said, they don't use QR hubs but hubs fastened with bolts. I never had one loosening due to the mudguards. For work I use one of those bikes so it gets intensive use.

what's the consenses on respraying a vintage bike frame

Non team bikes can also have an interesting history. The more of this history shows on the bike, the more interesting it is. A bike restored to bling bling showroomcondition has no history and no interest.

Specialized Hard Rock and Altai travel

Thanks, travel reports are always interesting. Especially from remote regions where cycletravellers are sparse. My photoset from the Altaj trip is here: http://vk.com/album16186292_102835081 and here: http://fotoalbum.dds.nl/ivo_m/altaj?DDS ... 0a90e30da3 I see you're from Pitr, I'll be there...

    Mudguards fitted

Ah, the usual thing. You fiddle for hours and can't get it done. Exhausted you go to have a cup of tea, return to the shed and it immediately is clear to you what you should have done hours ago ;).
