    Raleigh Twenty 1978

Re: I finally got round to working on another Twenty frame I picked up ages ago. A bit of a budget build, I used parts I had lying around mostly apart from tyres, chain, cables and bar tape but I'm quite pleased with it.

Have I got myself a Carlton?

Re: Back on the road! Albeit as a singlespeed/fixed just now, and it rides very well, I'm quite impressed with it!

Have I got myself a Carlton?

I tried an adjustable cup in the regular BSA size and it screwed right in thankfully, haven't removed the forks yet but the headset is nice and smooth. I've rubbed down the paint under the bottom bracket shell and found part of the serial number which is wh4, so looks like its a Carlton alright :-)

Have I got myself a Carlton?

Any idea of the seatpost size?

Have I got myself a Carlton?

I've been rubbing down some of the paint and it does appear that it was originally a two tone paint scheme, I also thought the rear mech hanger was quite unusual for the era.

Have I got myself a Carlton?

I picked up this battered and well used frame but have no idea what it is. I'm guessing by the wrapover seatstay it might be a Carlton, perhaps a Corsa? Unfortunately I can only make out the last number on the serial under the bottom bracket, the rest has either been scratched off or is under a...

    Scottish IndepenDENce YES or NO?

Re: Scottish Indepence YES or NO? I selectively picked 1979 as it's the first general election I can remember, I assume you selectively picked almost 70 years for similar reasons? Your argument, and how you project yourself does you no favours so I won't comment any further, I will let your...

    Scottish IndepenDENce YES or NO?

Re: Scottish Indepence YES or NO? Fairly sure with the help of Libdems we have a Conservative government just now, I'm also pretty sure you are aware of this and chose to hide behind the fact that the libdems are puppets at Westminster. 13 Years of labour in the past 35 years also does not make...

    Scottish IndepenDENce YES or NO?

Re: Scottish Indepence YES or NO? I find it such a shame that there seems to be so much opinions formed south of the border based on what is read in the press. Whether you are an SNP supporter or not, Alex Salmond has been a very capable MP and MSP since the 80s, he is well respected in his...

    Tubulars - holding air.

I also have Vottoria Corsa Evo CX, and yes they need pumped up every couple of days, apparently the lighter tube is more porous than a standard tube.

As the post above your one here, it's holding up well so far :-)

    Jumping down gears

I hope I don't jinx things with this post but I think I've found a fix for it! I suspected the cable guide was causing extra friction and wasn't helping, so I cut up one of those plastic cable guides that screws into a bottom bracket shell to wedge between the existing cable guides and routed...

    Jumping down gears

Re: Under these circumstances I would suggest it is the front mech moving in,it isn't a case of the chain intermittently rubbing but rather permanently moving in even when less pressure is applied requiring the lever to be readjusted much like the issue at the rear.

    Jumping down gears

The first two points have already been checked, I stripped the mech to clean the jockey wheels and checked they were the right way round. Interesting point about frame flex, I've found going up a steep hill, standing on pedal, which because of the gear jumping issue is a huge gear, that the...

Wondering if fitting this might solve the problem? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221046455961? ... 1423.l2649

    Jumping down gears

Wish I knew what was going on, visually everything looks fine! The bosses were taped prior to painting, and the threads are the only parts that have been lubricated, good suggestion though!

    Jumping down gears

As far as I can see the brazing around the bottom bracket is sound, the frame was sandblasted before repainting and it looked good. Cable guides are metal and part of the bottom bracket shell, I've given the guidle a good clear out so cable moves freely inside.

    Jumping down gears

I've convinced myself it's the cable run or frame flex at the root of the problem, wondering if using this will help. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sturmey-Arche ... 1046455961
