How about a lapierre or a Giant? A colleague bought the giant (anthem?) xc/marathon bike and he loves it. It also won some bike of the year award recently - if you beleive that sort of thing. Best thing to do is ride them and answer your question yourself.

Carbon is funny stuff. I've got carbon forks on my cruiser BMX and scattered on various bikes, but I always shy away from the stuff from less well known companies as I don't know what their testing is like. Irrational maybe, but particularly with forks, stems and bars IF they go you won't get...
