Hey Canuk, been there too, explains why I like over-sized frames. Worksop frames are superb, when Raleigh took over Carlton there was a transition period, early '80's, but then .... Carlton was essentially lost. My 1981 Corsair.

Carltons are, in my opinion, the cream of the crop and yours, the perfect vintage. Late model, it'll be lovely.

Bought as a pub-bike, my Bolinas Ridge may be entry level and without bells/whistles but I've been trail riding it more than the Team lately. It's bomb-proof solid and rides nicely. The frame is more harsh/stiff than the Team but putting Maxxis Icons on it at 2.2" makes it into a plush ride....

Think mine is '96, it's Tange premium /optimum or something and the key was it was the last model pre-front shocks [ has the rockstar forks]. That made me pull the trigger when they discounted it from £1250 to £850 at Alpine Bikes Aberdeen. It's been a awesome bike....

That's a stunning job you're doing, just love it! I'd define at as a sympathetic re-imagine as although latest-gen parts are fitted, they are entirely in keeping with mid-90's Marin ethics/aesthetics. It will be, I'm sure, a gorgeous machine to ride - well done.

I'm 5'11" and ride a 19inch [Marin definition] Team Marin. My son is 6'2" and rides a 20.5" frame which I tootle round on when I do any work on it, it's rideable. I'd guess the 17.5" would be about right though I'd prefer slightly larger frame for what I do.

Just to comment, my Carlton Corsair, 1981, has 531 main frame tubes and "gaspipe" stays/forks with chromed fork ends. As far as I am aware all Corsairs of that era were of similar spec. I'm still riding mine as bought by me in 1981 though it will hopefully be supplanted by my Wester Ross in the...

The guy's bike defo looks like Marin Rockstar forks. As for the marketing niche on these machines the "Rubble Racer" [Copyright Bobu, all future uses should be referred through my Samoan Attorney] to supercede any need for a gravel bike in the next marketing race....
