Bikes and Bridges

There has been a HUGE amount of that going on in the Highlands over the last forty years. Folks not caring about our right to roam/etc. We have had numerous confrontations thanks to new landowners having not a clue about the laws. Generally, the large estates are considerate and accommodating; it tends to be those who've got a relatively small parcel of land who shove up gates, fences, signs and leylandii.
Yep, even here too:

You'll note the bridge is gated, and enlarging you'll see a lock hole on the gate - it was locked. You can understand it to some degree as this bridge is the boundary between Invercauld Estate and .... Balmoral. It could just be that the bridge is not certified/safe, I don't know. It's not relevant if you are from here anyway as you can get onto that opposite bank via a trail that starts by the Auld Brig O'Dee /Invercauld Bridge that I featured at the weekend. I rode near here looking for this bridge last weekend on Balmoral track/trail. Despite all this access is not an issue here with all the estates [4] pretty well adhering to the free-to-roam codes.

There was a pivoting bridge over the river, but in 1908 a break in the canal wall upstream sent a torrent of water, which caused the drawbridge to buckle. The turning wheel fell into the water, it is what causes the swirling current visible close to the near bank.
