and this is how i roll now

considerable extra expense, but done in a much more tasteful way

i think this could be interesting - if you have a herd, what best represents you when you got here, and you now?

bonus points if you get the reference in the title

Really great topic, I'll play along.

My 1996 Cannondale F700, purchased used and dressed with period-inappropriate bits until I put it back close to original before I sold it along:

Now I have this!

My wallet is empty, but my bikes are waaaaaaayyyyyy cooler!

my tastes haven't really changed since i found RB, I still like what i like & have no intention of following the guidelines for true retro-ness just for the sake of period correctness.

what RB has given me is a mental refresher with products i had long forgotten & I now have an outlet to buy the decent kit i couldn't afford in the mid 90's. as a result, my builds look a lot tidier post RB but as everything i know is primarily self taught, youtube and the forums have played a big part in me having a crack at hub rebuilds, BB replacements & complete builds rather than swapping out 'basic' parts.

I came on here still owning my Butler from 1993 and I still own it. It is my nicest retrobike and my not be boutique but is certainly highend, I am happy.

It's a big case of each to their own.

Carl.

Not sure how far you've really come. Your stem and post still don't match and you're still using V's on a frame designed for canti's.

Given that it's a '95/96, is there not a difference between the frame being designed for, and being compatible with, V's? I'd be surprised if Merlin (as with pretty much all manufacturers of that era) didn't build their frames with a degree of felxibility towards the decision to use either.

The superfluous canti hanger is the real issue though, I suspect.
