Your 1st MTB

Giant Stonebreaker. The Police stole it off me! I advertised it for sale in the Freeads, a man and his daughter came to look at it, came back the next day with a Policeman and took my bike! (Got it back a few months later.)

Next bike I bought was a Black 93? Lava Dome which I'm sure is still to big for me.

The first two BSO mountain bikes I owned are long gone, I've no desire to re-own either. One was a gas pipe Halfords Apollo, the other was a Falcon with an Altus groupset.

I still own my first bike proper, the Timberline FS, although I gave it away in 2003 and had to go grovelling for it back last year.
A fantastic local ride on it a fortnight ago has me really thinking I might treat it to some new wheels and drivetrain... and possibly fork... Possibly cheaper to buy a donor bike at this rate

My first was a Dawes Tracker in 1989, mates were impressed as I had 18 indexed gears!! Next was a Kona Cinder Cone in 1991 - still in dad's garage. Then a Pace RC 200 F2 in 1993, sold in 2005 to finance a Recaro seat for my car - possibly one of the worst decisions I made but I had bought a Orange Sub 5 in 2000 which I still have. Bought a Kona Jake last year on cycle to work scheme as my work horse and quite fancy an On One Carbon Whippet as £999 with SLX this year

Mine was some kind of Muddy Fox. It got nicked. Can't remember what model it was but never seen another one like it. I could be wrong but I think it was blue and oversize aluminium. I have no desire to own it again. Then I had a Alpinestars which I've still got.

My first real MTB was an '88 Avanti Ridge Rider with 'smokey pink' paint scheme, like this one... but 2 sizes smaller!

Interestingly enough, they come up for sale in NZ reasonably often & i've nearly pulled the trigger a few times but I know it'd just gather dust & get in the way... much like most of my 'collection'. :p

I've tracked down & bought versions of my second & third bikes though.

2nd bike ('90 Nishiki Ariel)

3rd bike ('93 Avanti Lightning XTR (M900)). Working on a 'ground-up' resto now...

I've focused reasonably heavily on bikes I lusted after (Mantis XCR-EC, Funk Pro Comp, Klein Adroit, Nishiki Alien ACX etc)

1987 Peugeot Alpina..

Same as this, but in 18"..

Weighed slightly more than the Moon..

My first Real MTB is still in the family... I sold it to my Brother... I might have to try and persuade him he doesn't want it any more ;)

It was a '94 (I think) Marin Palisades Trail (Alloy Frame) with Ballistix (sp) Forks. I LOVED that bike and again, sold it for the right reasons at the time.

Amazingly, I've still got my first mountainbike (and a whole load of new ones now :D)
Overbury's Pioneer XC, February 1986. I bought it with a grand total of £615.80...those were the days.

It's been through a few paintjobs, alterations and repairs over the years, and sat for 25 in various sheds and cellars around the country. It's been let out on a few rides over the last year. Now in the process of restoring:

Here's my first MTB -- a Raleigh Talon. I think it's a '91. Pictured after I donated it to the local bike co-op. Check out the sweet 200GS crankset.
