You know you're getting old when............

I tried radio 2 for a while, no really, I did give it a go. Oooh, havent heard this in years great, tum te tum te tum, nice. Two days later, oh, thats nice its back on again oh, ok, tum ti tum. A couple days later, its back on again... right ok, tum ti - nope, no good , back to something else. Then theres that GODAWFUL female announcer for upcoming radio/tv who goes up and down in some sort of weird exaggerated enunciation - the same one is on bake-off? Anyway, it makes me want to reach into the radio and pull her throat out...

I only started listening to Radio 1 in the early 90's, catching the tale end of the Smashy and Nicey years (plus the side slittingly funny Steve Wright in the Afternoon). Early Pete Tong Essential mix (a god send at the time), Mark & Lard, the chaos on breakfast after Chris Evans left and it was whomever they could get - Simon Mayo was genuinely funny in a sort of gentle twee way completely at odds with Evans. I got into John Peel waay too late. The late night output was fantastic for me personally.

I still listen to R1 pretty much all day (along with radio 4) because I genuinely like *some* of the music, if not most. Not to buy and keep but to enjoy in the background. Scott Mills is still fun to listen to despite being of similar age and no longer yoof. A lot of the Friday evening output is right up my strasser. Zane Lowe was a bit of a mixed bag but got me hunting on Soundcloud and purchasing on itunes all the same.

By all means isolate yourself in your own 'era' with music but it does leave one closed to new sounds - I still draw the line at Justin Beiber despite some of his recent stuff actually being quite listenable...

In my mind, I'm Ryan Reynolds

When I'm actually more like:

Mainly Ken Bruces pop quiz for me. Still crap at it though
Like Sarah Cox too, can't stand C Evans though.
And Steve Wright is ok.
Mainly listen to talk radio in the day other than the above

Only listen in the car. So a couple of hours of radio 4 a day. Anything else is annoying. But I gave to switch off leese ducette(?) her mangling of the language is appalling.

I listen to absolute radio quite a lot, does get a bit repetitive sometimes but nowhere near as bad as heart or capital! Can't listen to capital, don't know how anyone can for more than 30 minutes tbh?

Playing Lego with my young daughter:

Daughter - The dragon is going to get the princess!
Me (naively) - Perhaps the knight can rescue her?
Daughter – No, it's ok she's got her mobile phone.

The classically masculine male truly does have a seriously diminished role in the modern/politically correct world of today.
