why dont retro bikes work when you really need them ?

In all seriousness, if you go off road on a 15 year old bike that you haven't rebuilt you're obviously taking some chances with mechanicals or discovering bad things about fatigue

If you take to the off road on a 15 year old bike you have rebuilt you are taking some chances with mechanicals!

However once that lovingly rebuilt retro has all gremlins ironed out, you know it is is built with simpler solidly performing kit and you know every nuance of the whole machine. Inherent reliability...

Which is actually pretty damned cool and doesn't have to be exotica, just your bike, your way

people if you are viewing this im not slagging of retro bikes
ive bean on a few and had a great time even with the breakdowns
just letting off steam i was really looking forward to taking it off road and it manged to just get across it

Although usually it's a case of "piss poor preparation equals piss poor performance" - you can hardly blame the poor bike, it's just a machine that needs a little regular preventative maintenance.

I would much prefer to be out on the trails on a retrobike with a mechanical than with a modern bike with a mechanical anyday of the week.

you can always banjo a repair on a retrobike, i wouldnt have a clue what to do if hydro discs failed or modern swanky suspension failed other than walk home
