whos running 2x10?

Running 2x on nearly everything here.
Using a 3x chainset with one ring removed will work, but the chain line will be slightly out. May or may not be an issue.
1x doesn't appeal, limited ratio range or big(ger) ratio jumps, dicking round with range extenders, funky cages, or just expensive (11 speed) and we have varied enough terrain that I will regularly use (and need!) gears at both ends of a 2x set up.

Plus I have no issues setting up front mechs.

I *may* end up with 1x on my next bike, as it'll probably be xt or xtr 11 speed, but that depends on how good the new front mechs are. Word on the street is that mechanical is as good as first gen road Di2 and xtr Di2 (if my budget stretches that far) is all but indistinguishable from a rear shift. Going on how well the new road mechs (6800/9000) are, I suspect the mtb ones are "quite good"

If you can ride 2*8 2*9 etc then do so altering your front for whater range you need, round here I need the range a 3* gives me (on a 3*9 setup).

I get a big 42 to 46 big ring for fast coasting stints coupled with the 11T cog and small 22/26 granny's with the 30-34T top cog.

If you don't need that range then remove what you'll not use or increase the middle ring and top of to give you as you need

For me even 1*10 wouldn't work.

It all about simplifying for what you need. Don't leave yourself wanting gears at the lower end or top end. There just is no point.
 
I run 1x 10 and it's good for modern 'enduro' riding, which is basically downhill and a grind back to the next descent. If your into cross country, all day riding or live in a particularly hilly area go 2 x 10 your legs will thank you for it.

Last weekend we did a 21 mile ride with 3800 feet of climbing(Mid Wales) and yes my mates on their 2 x 10 gearing laughed at me for over 3 hours for my stupid gearing!

2X9 for me , 22/36 up front and 11/34 on't back, couldn't live without my 22 because it's hilly in Yorkshire

here is my current set up on my half built new bike :)

that's a 30t chainring with a 36 on the back...


this is what my mate has and it does look tidy.
i dont have monies for a cluthed rear mech or 11 speed rear mech plus shifter, so making do with just changing my front rings for x2 and adjusting my limit screw for front mech.

one day maybe. but that'll be when i decide to go more modern with my frame anyway :p
 
I have SRAM 2x10 on the cooker and slx 3x10 on the coastroad. 29ers :oops: Both work well, look fine and are a godsend on the lumpy stuff.

Set up my 2*9 transmission tonight.
Not had a chance to give it a go but it seemed pretty easy to set the front mech and limit screws. Will report back on how well it serves me at Big Dog tomorrow!
